1959 JAGUAR Mk IX SALOON
Chassis No: P771603BW
Engine No: NC3159-8
Estimate: £19,000 - £24,000

The Jaguar Mk. IX was produced between 1959 and 1961 and replaced the previous Mk. VIII. Standard transmission was a four-speed manual system; options included overdrive, but most cars were built with a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic gearbox. Internally, an enlarged-bore 3.8 litre, 220bhp DOHC straight-six replaced the previous 3.4 litre unit with two SU carburettors were fitted. Four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating ball power steering was now standard equipment. The torsion bar independent front suspension and leaf-sprung rear live axle were retained from the Mk. VIII. The body was generally similar to its predecessor, but the sunshine roof became a standard fitting for the UK market. The interior was in the same luxurious mode with extensive use of leather, walnut wood trim and deep pile carpet. The Mk. IX's power and good brakes for a vehicle of that era, together with its undoubtedly impressive aesthetic appearance, makes it quite a common choice for the classic car market.

This early Jaguar Mk. IX Saloon has had three owners from new, the current owner purchased it in 2002. The first owner, Miss N B Gray, was a senior Police officer base in Birmingham who had a chauffeur drive her around. Supplied in June 1959 it has the Borg-Warner automatic gearbox fitted which allowed a front bench seat to be fitted. This matching numbers car was professionally restored in 1997 to the original specification of Indigo Blue over light blue with light blue leather interior and comes with the correct, complete toolkits fitted in both front doors. It is supplied with a V5C registration document, a heritage certificate, the original ‘first series’ handbook and two large files the first containing old registration documents, MoT’s and invoices. The second, a detailed history by the current owner while in his ownership with invoices and notes of works carried out. This Mk. IX emphasises Sir Williams Lyon’s theme of ‘Grace, Space and Pace’ with its flowing lines and extensive amount of chrome.

1970 CHEVROLET EL CAMINO SS454 LS6
Registration No: KRX 703H
Chassis No: 136800K212503
Engine No: TBC
Guide Price: £28,000 - £38,000

In the minds of most car guys, only a few cars can compete for all-time top-dog muscle-car status. From Mopar, that nod usually goes to the Dodge Challenger RT440, from Plymouth, it’s the 440 Hemi ‘Cuda Chevelle or even Fords Pony cars but whichever way you’re leaning, it’s generally accepted that the LS6 is the engine to have. Horsepower was king in 1970, and the LS6 cars were rated at 450, although some call that rating conservative. Regardless, these A-bodies were just the thing for brutal acceleration, endless doughnuts and city-block-long burnouts. But what if you needed to haul things every once in a while? Bigger things than would fit in that Chevelle’s trunk? Simple, buy an El Camino and you could still have your LS6 engine too. Adding the $263.30 Z15/LS6 package netted the famed 450hp, LS6, V8, making the 1970 El Camino the hands-down fastest truck on the planet.
Numbers vary about remaining cars, but they are certainly very few. This El Camino is a genuine LS6 and one of fewer than 500 originally built, as backed up by the original 50-year-old build sheet and original protect-o-plate. It was restored between 1996 and 1997 back in the US before forming part of an extremely low-profile but superb private collection. Enclosed within the history file is the US title, bills showing the engine rebuild and bodywork and decode of the trim tag. This is in excellent order throughout with a great rebuild history and superb pedigree. As they say, ‘the hands-down fastest truck on the planet.’

1966 FORD LOTUS CORTINA Mk1
Registration No: KUC 310D
Chassis No: BA74FJ59558
Engine No: 6267LBA
Guide Price: £46,000 - £52,000

  • DVLA supplied full detailed ownership history
  • Fully ground up restored in the late 90s
In 1961, Colin Chapman was commissioned by Harry Mundy to design a twin-cam version of the Ford Kent engine and its first appearance was at the Nürburgring in a Lotus 23 driven by Jim Clark. Soon after, the engine appeared in the Lotus Elan. During the engine's development, Walter Hayes at Ford asked Colin Chapman to fit the twin-cam into 1,000 Ford saloons for Group 2 racing homologation. Chapman accepted the contract and the type 28, or Lotus Cortina as it became known, was born. Whilst Ford supplied the two-door body shells and took care of the marketing, Lotus engineered the mechanical and cosmetic changes which included the 1558cc engine along with the Elan's close-ratio gearbox, front quarter bumpers and Lotus badges. They also made changes to the interior with a new centre console to accommodate the revised gear lever position, different seats and a later styled dashboard that incorporated a tachometer, odometer, oil pressure, water temperature and fuel gauges. A wood-rimmed steering wheel was the finishing touch.
This stunning late production Lotus Cortina was first registered on 5th July 1966. Presented in the iconic Lotus colours, this car boasts a documented history of ownership, from new, detailing the original buff logbook through to the latest V5 registration document of its current keeper who owns this and another equally stunning Cortina GT. The first owner, a Mr J Walmsley of Lincolnshire, had the car registered to the officer’s mess at RAF Coningsby, he owned the car until 1971 when he sold it to the second owner, Mr J Bather. The car had a further six owners (not including garages) before June 1987 when a Mr J. F. Bell purchased the car.
This example, which has been owned and cherished by genuine enthusiasts and club members, was fully restored in the mid to late ’90s by Mr Bell, including an engine and gearbox rebuild for which photos and invoices can be found within the history file. Mr Bell owned and cherished the car until 2019 when, after an exhaustive search, our vendor was introduced to him by a fellow owners’ club member. Having been keen to source a particularly good example for his collection, our vendor spent weeks persuading Mr Bell to part with the car before they eventually shook hands.
A car that is no stranger to the owners’ club and was displayed at the NEC’s National Classic Car show with Club Lotus back in 2003 amongst other events, we are informed that this car is well known. Unfortunately, due to a change in circumstance, our vendor now can no longer house the Lotus and thus his collection is having to be sold and this Cortina will pass onto its next custodian. Offered with an original owner’s handbook, history file including invoices and MoT test certificates alongside the detailed ownership history, this is a very desirable and well-maintained example.

1999 PLYMOUTH PROWLER - HISTORICS AUCTIONEERS Ascot Racecourse Sale Saturday 7th March 2020 Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot SL5 7JX

SELECTED BY THE SQUIRREL

1999 PLYMOUTH PROWLER
Registration No: T647 MLC
Chassis No: 1P3EW65G4XV503251
Engine No: TPTE1054903915
Guide Price: £38,000 - £45,000

  • Only 1,304 miles from new
  • Comes with a Plymouth trailer
The design of the Prowler was said to have been inspired after Chrysler engineers were given free reign to create whatever they wanted in a ‘hot rod’ or ‘Sportster’ type vehicle. One of the most striking design features of the Prowler is the open, Indy racer style front wheels. Although he is officially un-accredited, car designer Chip Foose's Chrysler sponsored a senior project car at Pasadena's ArtCenter College of Design, which he dubbed the ‘Hemisfear’ and evolved into the Prowler. While criticized for featuring a V6, the engine produced nearly as much torque as a V8. Prowler's lightweight translated into very impressive performance figures, including off-the-line acceleration. The car prominently featured aluminium in its construction, chiefly in the chassis. In many cases, the components were adhesively bonded. The body was produced in Shadyside, Ohio, and the car was assembled by hand at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan.
This particular example was manufactured in 1999 and first registered in the UK in 2015. The mileage of 1,304 is warranted and the condition is certainly commensurate of such a low mileage example, she really is like brand new. Described by the vendor as being great to drive, this Plymouth Prowler is finished in stunning red, with contrasting black leather trim. Automatic transmission contributes towards making this the ultimate alfresco cruising machine. The car is supplied with a matching Plymouth trailer, car cover and the original launch CD ‘Story of Prowler’. A V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until February 2021 also accompany this Plymouth together with the original book pack, a full set of keys and the original Certificate of Title.
