1959 FIAT MULTIPLA ABARTH - Coys Auction, Nurburgring 08/08/15

Nurburgring
169 - 1959 Fiat Multipla Abarth
1959 FIAT MULTIPLA ABARTH

Estimate: €30,000 - €40,000
Registration Number: EU Taxes Paid
Chassis Number: 54054
It is widely believed that the Fiat 500 was Fiat's first rear-engined post-war people's car, but it was, in fact, predated by the 600 or Seicento. Produced from 1955 to 1969, it measured only 321cm in length but could still accommodate four people and their luggage. It was such a success in post-war Italy that some 2.6 million were built at Fiat's Mirafiori plant. The 600's popularity was not, however, confined to Italy alone, as a wide range of countries, from Russia to Argentina, built the car under licence. Power came from a water-cooled four cylinder motor which was able to propel the little Fiat to 59mph with the 633cc engine or even to 68mph with the later 767cc variant.
A year after the 600's debut, the Multipla was introduced; based on the same mechanical components but with the front suspension from the bigger Fiat 1100, it was nothing less than the first people carrier, and could seat six despite being only 50cm longer than the Austin Mini! Not surprisingly it was widely used as a taxi in its native Italy.
This very special Multipla was in ownership at a Fiat-Abarth dealer who used it for dealer marketing comunication. Its engine has been updated with the Abarth kit available at the time, consisting of special exhaust, Abarth dashboard, increased oil sump, special cammes, and a Dell'Orto carburator. In the 2000s it was fitted also with 124 Abarth wheels.
This car has been recently restored in the body, interior, and mechanically it is in wonderful condition. It now runs like brand new, and photographs documenting the car's restoration can be found in the car's file.

1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500 - Coys Auction Nurburgring 08/08/15

GRIFF'S AUCTION PICK
FROM
Nurburgring
144 - 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500

Estimate: €100,000 - €130,000

Registration Number: Czech Republic Registered
Chassis Number: 67402F2A01323
This is perhaps the most documented, unique and collectable Ford Mustang existing today. With known history and ownership dating back to its original order at the Ford dealership in California on 15th November 1966, to its release on 16th January 1967 and the build date of 31st January 1967. This GT500 is registered in the “Shelby World Registry 1997” on pages 653 and 727 and “SAAC Shelby Registry 2011” on pages 827 and 983. The production sheet for the #01323 was marked “Pica Rivera inventory”. Chassis #01323 was sold on 13th October 1967 by Holiday Ford to its first owner, Patrick D. Carle from Mountain View, California. Patrick drove the Shelby as a “normal” car until 1974, when he decided to transform chassis #01323 into a competition car, so he got a racing license for the B/P- Class (B-Production). As a GT500, he would have to drive in the Trans AM class, but the rivalry was too great there.
The 428 PI engine was replaced by a 289, the roll cage modified, a reinforcement welded on the frame, a new racing exhaust pipe mounted, etc. In the end the car was an official GT350 prepared for racing. Patrick stored all the disassembled parts, all of which were reused for the later renovation, with the exception of the engine, gearbox, spring suspension and differential gear stick.
After all the necessary transformations, the license from SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) was granted. The original blue colour was changed to orange. Patrick registered his “GT350 #01323” at SCCA driving school in Sears Point in March 1974. The Shelby received a logbook with identification number 33-704. The logbook shows more records and it accompanied the Shelby through its entire racing career. The races were held in 1974, 1975 and 1976 at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. Unfortunately, four pages are missing from the original logbook, so it's impossible to specify when the last race was held. The SCCA logbook shows two black and white photos from 1974.
Patrick sold the “GT350” and all parts to Jerry Lecatsas, who had lent him the Cougar for the SCCA in 1974 and also sponsored him. Jerry, who also lived in Hayward, was (and still is) a Mustang/Shelby enthusiast. His Shelby experience goes back to the sixties. The car subsequently passed hands a few hands before being purchased by the cars current vendor on the 19th September 2005.
The odometer shows 74,000 miles, which is believed to be accurate. The car was painted with the original color “Nightmist Blue” in 1991, and carries a charming original patina. Chassis #01323 is said to start and run perfectly. As for the engine, the differential from 1975 with a gear ratio of 4.79:1 is changed to the original with the gear ratio of 3.50:1.
This Shelby GT500 has its own, interesting story to be told, granting a mystical past and character. According to the contemporary state of knowledge, the GT500 is the only one to have a SCCA logbook. It also oozes a certain charm, 4-speed top loader, centre lights and an incredible colour, which makes any admirer's heart beat faster, wherever it is seen.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 220 A Ponton by Pollmann of Germany - Barn find Coys Auctions

A255_online.jpg

We hope you are enjoying the show season even although the weather is so unpredictable at the moment. So today we are looking ahead to those long Winter months when we have the chance to potter about in the garage or even to take on a restoration project, with that in mind, our choice today will be up for grabs at Coys next sale.

110 - 1955 Mercedes-Benz 220 A Ponton by Pollmann of Germany - Barn find -

1955 Mercedes-Benz 220 A Ponton

by Pollmann of Germany - Barn find

Estimate: No Reserve
Registration Number: German Registered
Chassis Number: 180010-5503745
This Mercedes Ponton is indeed a very rare find. Being a break (or KOMBI in German), it is one of only eleven such cars built; this one is by Coachbuilder Pollmann of Bremen, who still exist today. Pollmann Coachbuilders received a long wheelbase chassis from the Mercedes works in 1955, which boasted the well proven 6-cylinder engine, providing 2,195cc and 84 HP, giving a sensational top speed of 160 km/h. The car has had only two owners in sixty years. The car was registered to its first owner in Hamburg on 5th April 1955, who kept it until 11th March 1966, when it was sold to the second owner who used it until 1st July 1976, at which time it was put into long time storage until its recent discovery.
Moreover, this very car is shown in the Mercedes book, Das große Ponton Buch, on a double-page spread (pp. 76-77) showing its first number plate of HH-CZ 3 –exactly the same as in its log book of 1955.

1970 Ford Cortina 1600 E - Coys Nurburgring Sale

 A255_online.jpg

101 - 1970 Ford Cortina 1600 E 97

1970 Ford Cortina 1600 E

Estimate: €14,000 - €18,000
Registration Number: Italian Registered
Chassis Number: CN97KT63547
The Cortina was produced in five generations (Mark I through to Mark V, although officially the last one was called the Cortina 80). From 1970 onward, it was almost identical to the German-market Ford Taunus (being built on the same platform) which was originally a different car model. This was part of a Ford attempt to unify its European operations; by 1976, when the revised Taunus was launched, the Cortina was identical. The new Taunus/Cortina used the doors and some panels from the 1970 Taunus. It was replaced in 1982 by the Ford Sierra. In Asia and Australasia, it was replaced by the Mazda 626-based Ford Telstar, though Ford New Zealand did import British-made CKD kits of the Ford Sierra estate for local assembly from 1984. The name was inspired by the name of the Italian ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo, site of the 1956 Winter Olympics. As a publicity stunt, several Cortinas were driven down the bobsled run at the resort which was called Cortina Auto-Bobbing.
The car on offer today is in very good condition and comes to auction with a declaration from GT Motorsport of Pavia (Italy) who worked on the car in 1970 with original Lotus components: intake manifold, exhaust manifold, Weber 40 DCHOE carburettors and pistons. This Ford Cortina is ASI certified and Italian registered. A very well prepared car to be enjoyed by its new owner.

1983 FORD CORTINA Mk 5 CRUSADER

1983 FORD CORTINA Mk 5 CRUSADER

Details
The Ford Cortina Mark V was announced on 24 August 1979. Officially the programme was code named Teresa, although externally it was marketed as "Cortina 80", but the Mark V tag was given to it immediately on release by the press, insiders and the general public.
Largely an update to the Mark IV, it was really a step between a facelift and a rebody. The Mark V differentiated itself from the Mark IV by having revised headlights with larger turn indicators incorporated (which were now visible on the side too), a wider slatted grille said to be more aerodynamically efficient, a flattened roof, larger glass area, slimmer C-pillars with revised vent covers, larger slatted tail lights (on saloon models) and upgraded trim. Prices started at £3,475 for a basic 1.3-litre-engined model. Improvements were also made to the engine range, with slight improvements to both fuel economy and power output compared to the Mk.IV. Ford claimed improved corrosion protection on Mk.V models; as a result, more Mk.V's have survived; however, corrosion was still quite a problem.
The vendor states that this car, inside outside and mechanically, is in outstanding condition. The car is thought to have done only 10,000 miles, which is borne out by the condition.

1997 CATERHAM 21 VHPD 1 OF 48 Built

Silverstone Auctions Silverstone Classic Sale

1997 CATERHAM 21 VHPD

Registration: R355 BMV
Chassis Number: SDKRDCAR8V0040043
Engine Number: R8-40043
Number of cylinders: Four
CC: 1795cc
Year of Manufacture: 1997
Estimate (£): 16,000 - 20,000
Developed as a completely new model by Caterham Cars Ltd in the early 1990s to celebrate 21 years of the company, the Caterham 21 was mechanically similar to its predecessor, the Caterham 7, and incorporated a space-frame chassis with a newly designed GRP body, making it much more of a useable and comfortable roadster, whilst offering a 1.6 and a 1.8 litre engine, the latter producing 190bhp, and the superb Caterham designed, 6-speed gearbox.
Offered here is a 21 used by Caterham Cars Ltd. as their original brochure, press and road test car. When tested by renowned Autocar journalist, Steve Sutcliffe in October 1997 he managed 0-60 in 4.5 secs with the car running in its original 190 bhp form. Being the press car, this example had a superb specification and is believed to be the fastest 21 produced. Included in the history file are the brochures and a copy of the Autocar magazine featuring this car. Presented in Honda Passion Metallic Orange with Black Leather trim, this 21 rides on its original 16-inch Caterham HPC wheels, which have been recently refurbished in gunmetal grey. Fitted with a Mohair hood and cover, the cabin is completed by a Momo steering wheel, fire extinguisher, roll hoops and a driver's 4-point harness.
The car had an engine and gearbox rebuild at 30,000 miles, with engine upgrades increasing the power output to 204bhp. Work at this time included a gas flowed head, Jenvey throttle bodies, Vernier pulleys, Emerald ECU, Alloy Rad, Air/Oil separator and a bespoke twin stainless steel exhaust costing £1,000. The car was corner weighted at 691kg, equating to a power/weight figure of over 300bhp/per tonne! Thankfully, AP Racing 4-pot brake callipers ensure the car stops equally as well as it goes.
This car has been meticulously maintained and has a full service book stamped from new to 58,470 miles (Aug 2013) with two folders of receipts for all the work carried out.  Sutcliffe summarises by saying "blindingly quick and hyper responsive in a car which also has a full sized boot unlike the Elise and Renault Sport Spider of the time."
This Caterham 21 is a rapid and nimble little roadster and, with its distinctive looks and relative rarity, is sure to turn heads.

1997 RENAULT SPIDER -Silverstone Auctions

Silverstone Auctions Silverstone Classic Sale

1997 RENAULT SPIDER

The Renault Sport Spider, or project W94 as it was codenamed, debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1995 and was launched the year after, when the Williams Renault F1 team was enjoying great success with it's Adrian Newey designed cars. Completely understandable, Renault's plan was clearly to capitalise on both this motor sport "moment in the Sunshine" with a multi national One Make Championship, and the sports car boom of the mid 90s, most visible in the number of Lotus Elise Mk.1s pouring out of the factory. Ultimately, although not as successful as they had hoped with only 1685 Sport Spiders being built, they did manage to create a fabulous little driver's car.
Powered by the 150bhp,16v four cylinder engine first seen in the Renault Clio Williams, and latterly in the original Megane 16v Coupe, and given it's relatively light weight, the Sport Spider turned out to be a positive "Road Rocket" with 60 mph. coming up in 6.9 seconds on it's way to a maximum of 134mph.
Take a seat behind the wheel and you instantly know that this car means business; quite simply it's more race car than road car. A single aluminium bar dominates the dashboard with only three dials set into a central pod. A speedometer was not part of the package and a rev counter, oil and water pressure gauges were all that were deemed necessary. To complete the sports car feel, there are body-hugging Recaro bucket seats, a leather trimmed steering wheel and adjustable pedals to enable the driver to achieve the absolute optimum driving position. The windows meanwhile, pivot up to open, which is arguably practical and certainly distinctive. The Renault Spider championships ran for several years as a support series to larger championships such as British Touring Cars and groomed many fine racing drivers, including the hard charging Jason Plato.
Only 60 right hand drive models were manufactured during its short production run of 18 months, and this particular example has covered only 3,290 miles from new as detailed on the MoT certificate dated the 2nd April 2015, making it a rare and interesting proposition.
Registered in the UK in 2013 the V5c shows no former keepers, however the car was registered in Ireland in 1997 and the SIMI Vehicle Data Check in the accompanying history file shows 2 keepers. This file also contains some receipts and invoices for servicing work, the original hand book and service book along with copies of the original registration documents.
Renault Spiders always prove to be popular when we have offered them in the past, and with its low mileage and sensible guide price this one will not disappoint.

1990 LANCIA DELTA HF INTERGRALE 16v - Silverstone Auctions

Silverstone Auctions Silverstone Classic Sale

1990 LANCIA DELTA HF INTERGRALE 16v

Despite the fact that the 8 valve Integrale had dominated the 1988 World Rally Championship, Lancia knew that further upgrades, and particularly more power, were needed to keep the car competitive with newer rivals. Accordingly, the extensively developed 16 valve car appeared a short time later, and made a winning debut on the 1989 San Remo Rally.
The 16v Integrale was launched at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show and the new car could be distinguished from its predecessor by the raised bonnet centre section to accommodate the, slightly taller, 16 valve engine. Other visible exterior changes were wider wheels and tyres and new identity badges front and rear. The torque split was changed to 47% front and 53% rear to give the car better handling characteristics.
The turbocharged 2-litre Lancia engine, already a powerful, refined performer was further developed for the Integrale 16v. Generating 200 bhp. (149 kW) at 5500 rpm, it took the car to a maximum speed of 137 mph (220 km/h) and from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.5 seconds. Larger injectors provided higher power output and more effective use of the fuel feed at high engine speeds. The response of the Garrett T3 turbocharger was immediate, thanks to the reduced inertia of the turbine removing turbo-lag, and a highly efficient intercooler enabled the engine to run at high outputs for longer without compromising reliability. The new over-boost system used a proportional electrovalve to increase engine torque to 220 lb/ft (298 N•m) at 3,000 rpm. All these improvements made the road-going version of the Integrale 16v a spirited, reliable and inherently safe car.
This superb, left-hand drive, Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v is finished in lovely Nero Metallic with a Grey Harlem interior. Showing 74,500kms (46,000mls), the car is presented in excellent order having spent most of its life in the ownership of a European collector, who cherished the little Lancia and took it with him whenever he moved.
First registered in Spain, and later in Holland, a move to Switzerland dictated that he, sadly, had to part with the car as the big Turbo and the lack of a Catalytic Convertor meant that the car fell foul of local regulations and could not be registered.
Very rarely found in this condition, this Delta comes with the relevant Manuals and a stamped history book and is UK Registered with all taxes paid. The car has had a recent Full Service including the, all important, Cam Belt replacement.
A real stunner, these 4 wheel drive pocket rockets are great fun to drive and are gaining real traction in the market as usable future classics.
