The Datsun 260Z was the second generation of 'Z' two-seat coupés produced by Nissan in Japan from 1975 to 1978. For the 260Z, the engine was enlarged over that of the 240Z with a longer stroke to 2.6 litres and increased the power output increased to 165bhp. 1974 brought for the first time to the S30 line a new 2+2 seating version, which offered room for four passengers and an extra 11.9” of wheelbase. These cars have a notably different roofline from the two-seat coupés, incorporating larger opening quarter panel windows. The 260Z claimed a few updates or improvements over the 240Z. The climate controls were more sensibly laid out and easier to work, and those cars with air conditioning now had the system integrated into the main climate control panel.

This 260Z has been imported into the UK from the US and is a rust-free example. Unusually for cars imported from America, there is a history file with this car confirming it is a good genuine well cared for example. Finished in blue with cream interior and fitted with automatic transmission, this lefthand drive Datsun runs and drives well. Now registered with the DVLA and supplied with a V5C registration document, a 260Z is a rewarding car to drive and a true useable classic. This sound example represents excellent value.

The example offered here is in very good order throughout having been recently treated to a window out, panel off full repaint costing we are informed in excess of £10,000, and an interior that shows little sign of age. Offered in a very desirable colour combination, this Datsun must be one of the nicer examples currently available and only has a mere 44,000 miles showing on the odometer. The car comes complete with a comprehensive history file detailing previous maintenance work including photos of the recent paintwork, with a record of all owners from new verifying the low mileage. Offered with a V5C registration document, current MoT until May 2020 and previous MOT certificates and sundry invoices, this is a perfect opportunity to obtain such a truly rare and desirable UK car in righthand drive with low mileage.

It soon became apparent during its creation, that the Datsun 240Z represented all the requirements of sports-minded drivers by fulfilling their desires for superb styling, power and safety whilst providing them with the most thrilling and enjoyable ride available in any car at that time. Reporting 151bhp and 146lb/ft of torque at just 4,400rpm, Car & Driver said; ‘A brilliantly conceived car with twice as much thought having gone into it when compared to the Big Healey, MGC, Lotus Elan, Porsches and Corvettes’. Offering a 125mph top-speed and the 0-60mph dash in a shade under eight seconds, the well-spaced five-speed gear ratios made the most of the engine’s torque whilst retaining the ability to achieve in excess of 30mpg, this was to put the ‘Z’ ahead of many of its contemporaries and on a par with Porsche 911’s of the time. Very impressive, by anyone’s standards. Although Datsun didn’t invent the overhead-cam engine, disc brakes or all-round Independent suspension, the 240Z incorporated all of these systems into a brilliantly conceived car. It was no surprise therefore that, for many years the Datsun 240Z was heralded as the most successful sports car of all time and was very successful in rallying also.

This lovely well-sorted example is presented in red and has a recently rebuilt 2800cc engine which has only covered 2000 miles since its rebuild. It is fitted with a full roll cage and race harness (out of date) Quaife differential, five-speed gearbox and apparently is pushing some 235bhp. It also has new genuine correct seats which have just been fitted and new Minilite alloy wheels have also been fitted with Avon CR6ZZ tyres at great expense. The present owner has had various works carried out to the car this year which include the fitting of new brake servo hoses, tuning the engine, new spark plugs, new ventilated discs and four-piston calipers and new rear cylinders to name a few of the works (full details on file). The owner has also had a compression test done, the results of which can also be seen on file. This is a fine example of this iconic classic in fast road/rally specification which really should be seen to be truly fully appreciated.

• A beautiful, right-hand drive, SP311 1600 Fairlady, imported in 2011 by a highly regarded Nissan race team principal
• Road-legal and rebuilt with the potential for competition use. FIA roll cage, engine fully rebuilt and race-tuned
• Potential access to events such as Goodwood with supporting JAF/FIA homologation papers and a letter from NISMO confirming build date pre-May 1965
• Similar spec Fairladys were raced in the USA by the likes of Peter Brock and Steve McQueen    

This example was imported into the UK in 2011 by a private collector who is the team principal of a highly regarded UK-based Nissan racing team who have built and raced numerous successful cars over the last two decades in International Touring Cars, Dakar Rally, Rally Raid and GT racing. The decision was taken to have the car totally stripped and rebuilt from the ground up to be road legal but with competition in mind. All components were removed, the shell stripped and repainted by Normandale of Daventry and the engine was rebuilt and race-tuned by Nissan engine specialists, International Engine Services in Essex. The complete car was then re-assembled by the in-house team of specialist race engineers including an FIA roll cage and custom side-exit sports exhaust. Since the build was completed, the car has taken part in the Kop Hill Climb, and just one sprint race at Goodwood and remains in fine shape and on-the-button. Finished in gleaming white with a smart red soft top, the little Datsun presents very well as you might expect having so recently been professionally rebuilt, and we understand that it performs as well as it looks and turns heads at any event or on the journey there and back.

The owner’s file contains a letter from NISMO (the in-house tuning, motorsports and performance division of Nissan) confirming a build date pre-May 1965, JAF/FIA Homologation papers, the current V5c, old MOT's, owners handbook, import documents and various invoices. Also accompanying the car is the original cast manifold that would be required for a current FIA HTP application.

Rarely seen on British roads, and an even rarer sight on British racing circuits, this cool Japanese Sportster, with some slight modifications could bag you a place on the grid at some very prestigious events, or perhaps just enjoy it as it is. Often described as a Japanese copy of the MGB but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In point of fact, the Datsun pre-dated the introduction of the MGB by several months, and any styling similarities are coincidental, a great conversation starter at any classic car meeting, hill climb or sprint event.
