The Datsun 260Z was the second generation of 'Z' two-seat coupés produced by Nissan in Japan from 1975 to 1978. For the 260Z, the engine was enlarged over that of the 240Z with a longer stroke to 2.6 litres and increased the power output increased to 165bhp. 1974 brought for the first time to the S30 line a new 2+2 seating version, which offered room for four passengers and an extra 11.9” of wheelbase. These cars have a notably different roofline from the two-seat coupés, incorporating larger opening quarter panel windows. The 260Z claimed a few updates or improvements over the 240Z. The climate controls were more sensibly laid out and easier to work, and those cars with air conditioning now had the system integrated into the main climate control panel.

This 260Z has been imported into the UK from the US and is a rust-free example. Unusually for cars imported from America, there is a history file with this car confirming it is a good genuine well cared for example. Finished in blue with cream interior and fitted with automatic transmission, this lefthand drive Datsun runs and drives well. Now registered with the DVLA and supplied with a V5C registration document, a 260Z is a rewarding car to drive and a true useable classic. This sound example represents excellent value.

The example offered here is in very good order throughout having been recently treated to a window out, panel off full repaint costing we are informed in excess of £10,000, and an interior that shows little sign of age. Offered in a very desirable colour combination, this Datsun must be one of the nicer examples currently available and only has a mere 44,000 miles showing on the odometer. The car comes complete with a comprehensive history file detailing previous maintenance work including photos of the recent paintwork, with a record of all owners from new verifying the low mileage. Offered with a V5C registration document, current MoT until May 2020 and previous MOT certificates and sundry invoices, this is a perfect opportunity to obtain such a truly rare and desirable UK car in righthand drive with low mileage.

Launched in 1969 as a direct competitor to the Jaguar E-Type, Triumph TR5, Alfa Spider and Healey 3000, the Datsun 240Z amazed everyone by becoming the best-selling sports car of all time, clocking up over a million sales (the vast majority in America) before it was replaced by the equally successful 260Z in 1973.
With a combination of Ferrari-esque styling, bullet proof mechanicals and a lusty straight-six engine, the car's popular appeal was cemented by a highly successful career in international rallying. Apart from its larger engine which now produced 162bhp in place of the 240’s 150bhp, the 260Z also had a stiffer chassis and improved heating/ventilation and was slightly faster at 127mph flat out.
Beautifully balanced and with fine handling from its all-round independent suspension, it had sharp 2.7 turns lock-to-lock steering and powerful front disc brakes. Also available in 2+2 format, it remained in production until 1978 when it was replaced by the much larger and heavier 280ZX.
Dating from May 1974, this orange 260Z 2+2 has had just one registered keeper since 1984, according to the V5C, and was last on the road in 1989 but has been in storage since. Reputedly in running order when laid up, it is said to be in basically sound condition with a good black vinyl interior, a manual gearbox and is said to be complete apart from some minor bits of trim. Being offered here as a restoration project, it comes with a nice single digit registration number, a well stamped service book and a set of period Wolfrace alloy wheels.
