1967 RENAULT 10 ALCONI - BARONS CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS 24th September 2021 at Sandown Park Racecourse

              OUR FEATURED AUCTION

BARONS CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS
24th September 2021 at Sandown Park Racecourse

Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars Sale

1967 RENAULT 10 ALCONI
Registration No: To Be Registered
Chassis No: 6610748
MOT & Tax Exempt
Colour: Blue
Guide Price £13,500-£17,000

The Renault Alconi was a performance version of the Renault 8 and 10 sold by Renault (Africa) Ltd, a subsidiary of the French Regie Renault Factory. They were sold new through the Renault dealer network in South Africa between 1965 and 1970 and came with a full factory warranty. The concept was intended to increase car sales to a racing mad South African public by taking advantage of their race-track successes in local "Sprint" and "Endurance" races. A total of 458 factory Alconis were made, along with hundreds of conversion kits to allow owners to modify their existing cars, but only the official cars were supplied with ‘Alconi’ badges on the front wing.

The car was developed specifically for the motorsport-mad South African market and was the brainchild of John Conchie and Eric 'Puddles' Adler, who traded as "Alconi Developments" – a mixture of their surnames. It helped Renault increase its sales in SA and also market a whole range of Alconi performance upgrades, making the car something of a legend in its home market where R10 Touring Cars had won a series of production car championships.

Production of the Alconi started in batches of 50 R10s. Standard R10s were marketed with the Renault 1108cc Caravelle engine, with slightly better performance from a twin-choke Weber carburettor. The production Alconis used the same upgrade kit on the newer R10 1108cc engine but retained the production carburettor, and the vehicle was slightly lower (1 inch) than its standard brother.  Colour choices were initiated: Alconi blue with white flashes down the sides, Red with white flashes and white with red flashes.  Production continued through 1967 and 1968 and possibly 1969.

A 1973 Renault 10 Alconi. This is a very rare car, 1 of 458, that was only built in South Africa, and as quick as a 1300cc Renault 10 Gordini. This car has just come in from South Africa and is in very good condition having had a concours re-build 15 years ago. There is a copy of a letter by the original owner who owned it from new until 2005, and there seems to have been only two other owners, in which he lists its early history and specification. It appears that the engine was bored out from its original 1106cc to 1206cc, a "hot 701 camshaft" fitted, the twin-choke Weber was uprated from a 32 to a 36, a tubular exhaust fitted, and adjustable shock absorbers (probably Koni) fitted all round.

1967 MG 1100 - BARONS AUCTIONEERS Sandown Park Racecourse Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ Tuesday 30th April 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

BARONS AUCTIONEERS
Sandown Park Racecourse
Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ
Tuesday 30th April 2019

1967 MG 1100
ONLY 27,500 MILES RECORDED FROM NEW

Registration No: GFV 902E
Chassis No: GAS53/111263
Guide Price: £6,000 - £8,500

The Morris 1100 was launched on 15 August 1962. The range was expanded to include several rebadged versions, including the twin-carburettor MG 1100 (introduced at the end of September 1962), the Austin 1100 (August 1963), the Vanden Plas Princess 1100 (October 1963) and finally the Wolseley 1100 (1965) and Riley Kestrel (1965). The Morris badged 1100/1300 models were discontinued on the launch of the Morris Marina in 1971, but the Austin and Vanden Plas versions remained in production in the UK until June 1974.

There are only 149 examples of the MG1100 known to still exist with the DVLA and this must be the best original one left. The mileage is warranted and it comes with the original bill of sale, as well as a copy of an article from a local newspaper dated March 1994, showing a picture of the car with the number plate visible, and its original owner with the article stating the mileage then as 21,000 miles.

Whilst it is now of course both tax and MOT exempt, it passed an MOT in December 2018 with no advisories. It drives very well with recent new tyres all round and comes with a copy of the AA handbook for 1966/67 in the glove box. The vendor states that is would make an ideal museum exhibit.

Note: This description is provided by the vendor and unless otherwise stated is 'Not Verified' by Barons or any person employed by Barons. Prospective purchasers are advised to satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of any statements made, whether they be statements of fact or opinion.

1984 FIAT X1/9 - BARONS AUCTIONEERS Sandown Park Racecourse Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ Tuesday 30th April 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

BARONS AUCTIONEERS
Sandown Park Racecourse
Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ
Tuesday 30th April 2019

1984 FIAT X1/9
Registration No: A117 ODY
Chassis No: 7150766
Engine No: Not Specified
Guide Price: £2,000 - £3,000

1983 Fiat X19 described by the vendor as a rare classic in very good condition. This car comes in what must surely be the best colour combination available, red over metallic charcoal with genuine gold alloys. This colour combination was only manufactured for one year, and with just twelve 1983 models left on the road, you are very unlikely to see another one like this. The car is 100% original except for one important detail, the earlier style bumpers have been retro-filled and powder coated by the previous owner at huge expense (well over £1,000). They look fantastic and this also saves a great deal of weight. In addition, the engine has been tuned by a specialist so that it has slightly more power and perhaps more importantly, it passes the emissions test every year.

The present owner has owned this car for 4 years and has covered just over 5,000 miles. The MOT was issued on 20 June 2018 with one advisory (tyre wear on one wheel). The vendor will supply the car to the auctioneer with 12 months MOT. The car looks great and drives superbly.

Recent work on the car includes braking system overhaul with lines bled and new hoses, new clutch and brake slave cylinders, new tyres, steering column overhaul, new side indicators and number plate lights, new exhaust, new battery, pop up lights mechanism overhaul, and driver’s door realignment.

With modest investments to address minor flaws to the bodywork and replace the electric window motors, this car could be brought to an excellent standard very cheaply. This lot includes £1,000 worth of spare parts (4 boxes), a spare ignition key (uncut), Haynes manual and full-service history file

Note: This description is provided by the vendor and unless otherwise stated is 'Not Verified' by Barons or any person employed by Barons. Prospective purchasers are advised to satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of any statements made, whether they be statements of fact or opinion.
