Saturday 17th July 2021.

1952 Riley RMB ‘Harrian Special’

Lot No: 149
Registration No: KNP 967
Chassis No: RMB62S9448
Engine No: RMB2-203

  • One off special and well known to the Riley RM club
  • Extensively restored example
  • Sizeable history file

Despite producing some fine small saloons and sporting cars and carving out an enviable competition record for itself during the early 1930s, Riley had lost its battle to remain independent by the decade's end and became part of the Nuffield Organisation. Rileys of the immediate post-war years were, nevertheless, recognisable products of the 'old firm'. The 2.5 litre RMB engine produced 90bhp which was good for a top speed of around 95mph.

This handsome Riley began life as a sports saloon. According to Riley RM Club Records, Harry Wilton built the motor car to its present form in 1979 and it has been known to the club as the ‘Harrian Special’ ever since. The chassis was shortened by 17 inches, resulting in a purposeful looking two-seat roadster. Other features include two cutaway doors, a Kenlow fan and an oil cooler. Interestingly, this Riley was featured in the Autocar magazine in 1981 and later in the Riley RM Club magazine.

The previous vendor’s grandfather was Mr Harry Ferguson of Ferguson Tractor fame and the motor car has been enjoyed by his descendants through the years. Dry stored in the Isle of Wight since 1993, this stunning Riley special was acquired by our vendor in 2014 who set about a comprehensive restoration. The body was taken off the vehicle and the chassis was repaired and treated where necessary. Other work included restoration of the engine, body and various other upgrades. Used only occasionally by the current vendor, the Riley is in excellent order and is reported to run and drive very well indeed. Offered with a comprehensive file detailing its history, many bills and receipts of restoration, a photographic record of the restoration, the UK V5C registration document and old MoT records. We are sure this fantastic one-off special will prove to be huge amounts of fun now that summer is finally here.

1952 DAIMLER BARKER SPECIAL SPORT - COYS AUCTIONS Fontwell House Sale Chichester Thursday 12th September 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

COYS AUCTIONS
Fontwell House Sale
Chichester
Thursday 12th September 2019

1952 DAIMLER BARKER SPECIAL SPORT
Registration No: MLY 110
Chassis No: 159087

The Daimler Special Sports is based upon the post-war DB18 chassis with several important modifications, the most notable being an overdrive gearbox, high ratio differential, hydro/mechanical brakes, alloy cylinder head and twin carburettors. The standard DB18 chassis had built-in jacks, an automatic lubrication system and heater as standard, which also feature on this car.
The title Special Sports is a misnomer, the car should rightly be regarded as a comfortable high-speed touring car. Its seasoned ash frame, heavy upholstered seats, thick Wilton carpet and beautifully crafted wooden trim, give a weight to the car which reduces the effectiveness of the twin carbs and alloy cylinder head.
However, the car will comfortably cruise at 60mph plus and is easily capable of motorway speeds. The long wheelbase and excellent suspension, independent at the front, iron out the bumps and give the car a lovely long-legged ride. The chassis of the DB18 range rarely give cause for concern, they are built of high-grade steel and well-engineered.
This car has had a ground-up restoration and when completed was the centrefold in Practical Classics magazine. A truly elegant open-top tourer and a very rare piece of British motoring history.

Beaulieu, National Motor Museum

The ex-'Siegfried Farnon', All Creatures Great and Small

1952 Rover 75 Saloon
Registration no. 483 LHY
Chassis no. 24300550

"The Rover 75 and its derivatives were to prove that Spencer Wilks hadn't lost his touch by offering the traditional formula of Rover's good engineering with comfortable and discreet interior ... " - Jonathan Wood, The Enthusiast's Guide to British Postwar Classic Cars, Osprey, 1980.
This handsome and decidedly upper-middle-class 1950s Rover 75 will be familiar to millions of TV viewers as that driven by vet Siegfried Farnon (played by actor Robert Hardy) in the BBC's popular series All Creatures Great and Small (1988-1990). During filming the Rover was registered 'GFC 529' having previously been registered 'RPJ 18'. A signed photograph of Robert Hardy – 'Best wishes to my old Rover' – is included in the sale. Interestingly, this Rover 75 was first owned by Harold Harrington Balfour, 1st Baron Balfour of Inchrye, a former WWI flying ace and politician who as Under Secretary of State for Air in 1944 was instrumental in the establishment of Heathrow Airport (see photocopied logbook on file). The previous owner purchased the Rover at Brooks' Earls Court auction in October 1991 (Lot 29). Offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed, the car comes with the aforementioned documentation and a V5 registration document.

1952 MORRIS MINOR CONVERTIBLE -SOUTHWESTERN VEHICLE AUCTIONS Friday 26th July 2019 Kinson Pottery Trading Estate 61 Ringwood Road, Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, BH14 0RG

FEATURED AUCTION

SOUTHWESTERN VEHICLE AUCTIONS
Friday 26th July 2019
Kinson Pottery Trading Estate
61 Ringwood Road,
Parkstone, Poole,
Dorset, BH14 0RG

1952 MORRIS MINOR CONVERTIBLE
During the vendor’s tenure over the past 18 months, this Morris Minor has had a good deal of time and money lavished on her including; a complete new wiring loom, points, plugs, distributor cap, 20/50 oil and filters, rear drop links, front kingpins and trunnions, brake shoes and drums and a plethora of brand new chrome. The original side-valve engine was replaced with an ‘A’ series 948 OHV engine which has good oil pressure at 40PSI at idle and 60 PSI when on the move. The vendor was keen to retain the original trafficators but found that modern drivers under the age of 50 had no idea what they are so indicator lights were installed which run in tandem with the trafficators to avoid accidents. The front indicators have been placed where the original sidelights were and the headlight units replaced with integral sidelights. The interior has been refurbished with beautiful red leather to the original pattern.
Auctioneers Notes
This is a smashing split-screen Minor – I think, the 1000 cc OHVengine, without a doubt, will improve her driveability of this 67-year-old car.  Please ring and make an appointment to view
