1930 Morgan Super Aero

Chassis number M210 left the Morgan factory in June 1930 for Frank Spouse, the Morgan agent in Glasgow, to then be registered in November as VA 9916. The car then stayed in Scotland for 86 years. The car is believed to have been laid up during the war years, returning to the road in 1947 powered by a 1925 Anzani engine; it is not known why the car lost the Jap engine. Having been sold several times, this Morgan was then taken off the road in 1952. Following the death of its owner, the Morgan returned to England and restoration began. An appropriate dog-eared Jap engine was sourced for the car. Restoration has included new woodwork, a new beetle back and skirt, new bevel-box bushes, new crown wheel/pinion, new input shaft wheels and brakes etc. The engine has had a new big end, new front and rear shafts, new pistons, cams, valves and guides etc. Over the last couple of years, a lot of time and money has been spent on the car and now there isn’t a huge amount of work to complete the restoration. This is a very genuine Super Aero, one of the most sought after of Morgans.

Although the first Austin car was marketed as early as 1906, it was really not until the 1922 season that the company established itself as the number one player in the domestic car market.
This was due largely to the phenomenal success of Austin's 7hp and 12hp models which gained a reputation for utter dependability at an affordable price. By 1927 they had been joined by another outstanding model, the 16hp, a particularly lively six-cylinder machine which helped cement the firm's reputation as a maker of quality cars for the masses.
Slotting neatly into the Austin range above the 12hp model but below the 20hp, the 16/6 was powered by a new 2,249cc side-valve engine with a timing chain at the rear of the block, mated to a four-speed gearbox. It shared its chassis with the Heavy 12/4 from which it was distinguished by the ‘Austin Six’ script on the radiator and wire wheels.
Autocar particularly liked the six-cylinder engine reporting that it ran “very nicely indeed, smoothly, quietly and with a real willingness to get going if the driver chooses,” recording a top speed of 60mph and 21mpg economy. Periodically updated and restyled, the Sixteen lasted in production until 1937 in a variety of saloon and tourer bodies and is widely regarded as one of Austin’s finest models by the enthusiasts of today.
This unique and spectacular 16/6 was discovered by the previous owner, Gareth Jones, languishing in a Welsh barn in 1979 in a dilapidated and dismantled state. An Austin expert, he was intrigued by the look of the car and knew it was something special being quite unlike any other 16 that he, or anyone else, had seen: a two-door coupe with fabric above the waist level and aluminium below with a full-length louvred side bonnet. In fact it took three years of intensive research to discover exactly what model it was and who had made the body.
To cut a long story short, it turned out to be a Magnet Coupe, one of perhaps three such cars specially bodied by Weymann under instruction from Pass & Joyce, a London distributor for Austin and Sunbeam with showrooms in the West End. The first owner of RB 2297 was a Miss Hetty Holloway of Derbyshire and Kent who bought it on 18th July 1930 and was to keep it right up until 1962 when she part-exchanged it for a new Hillman. It then had several other owners including Hilary Stevenson, the son of the vicar of Winterbourne in Gloucestershire, who drove it down to Lloret de Mar in north-east Spain in the early 1960s, a 2,000-mile round-trip which it completed without drama.
The restoration of the car was to take Mr Jones 24 years to complete, the whole process being exhaustively documented in one of the largest history files we have ever seen. It was aided by a 1960s photograph of the car in its pre-dismantled state which miraculously surfaced as the project was nearing its end, being donated by a previous owner of RB 2297 who, it turned out, lived not one mile from Mr Jones – just one of several remarkable coincidences that occurred during the project.
The full extent of the work carried out is far too detailed to cover here, but rest assured that every single nut, bolt and widget has been expertly restored or renewed with the wonderful results you see today. Originally dark green, the car was repainted in a much more cheerful two-tone green which gives it a very jaunty air. Typifying the standard of the workmanship, the engine was not only rebuilt but also balanced and the interior was retrimmed using leather and headlining material sourced from Rolls-Royce.
Finally back on the road in 2003, RB 2297 was acquired by our vendor in 2006 and has still only covered 814 fine weather miles since the restoration was completed, often appearing in shows where it is always given a warm welcome. Believed to be the sole survivor of only three made (another was destroyed by the Luftwaffe in WW2) this outstanding Austin is on offer here from a deceased estate at a very modest guide price and is sure to attract a huge amount of interest wherever it goes.

1930 PACKARD DELUXE EIGHT ROADSTER 745

The seventh series (1930 model) encompassed three sub-series: the Standard Eight, Speedster and Custom & Deluxe Eight (respective references 740 and 745). The latter represented Packard’s top of the range, and were fitted with the largest engine in existence: an in-line eight-cylinder 6.4-litre with side valves, developing a modest 106bhp at 3000rpm, but with generous torque, and impressively quiet.
The bodies of such exceptional cars were, of course, assigned to such leading names as LeBaron, Brewster, Dietrich and Rollston. More than 11 different chassis models were available for the 745, which had front seats and adjustable steering (for clients without a chauffeur), laminated glass windows, and dual-mounted spare wheels, among other luxury fittings.
The 745 Roadster is arguably the most beautifully designed option for the seventh series and fitted with dickie seats in the rear and telescopic windscreen, in many ways, this dashing and well-proportioned style, which was so appropriate to country estates and summer homes, defined the 1930s Classic Era.
This outstanding roadster, with its stunning colours and dedication to authenticity, is a car that gathers its fair share of stares; while also offering the ultimate experience on any tour.
The Packard Company slogan, ‘Ask the man who owns one,’ was never more clearly defined than in this beautiful roadster from Packard’s past.
Offered from a prestigious private Packard collection where it has remained over the past 16 years, this wonderful example has been fastidiously maintained during this time. Its owner, wielding a no-expense-spared mentality when it comes down to the upkeep of his cars, with this one being no exception, enjoys driving his cars!
Attending numerous concourse events and rally’s over the years, including winning National First Prize at the Automobile Club of America in 1975, more recently # 183412 has taken part in several Alpine Rally’s including the renowned Kitzbüheler, said to be one of the most beautiful classic car events in the Alps.
Fitted with 6 Firestone Gum F Dipped high-speed heavy-duty tires, and also offered with 4 winter tires, and luggage case on its steel luggage rack. The Packard 745 is a rare car of which just 1,789 produced, with approximately only 50 being roadsters and it’s estimated that less than ten still exist.
1930 was the only year that the 145.5-inch wheelbase Super Eight Packard was produced, making this 745 Roadster one of the most special and iconic cars of all time.

First Citroën with 6 cylinders engine
French title

This Citroën C6 F is in an excellent state. It sports a limousine body with rear foldable seats. Delivered new in 1930, this Citroën is finished in two tons of lord blue. The upper part of the car is in a darker bluet than the lower. A gold line seperates these two colors. The wheel arches are painted in brillant black. Its interior is in very good shape, covered with grey fabric. Its engine runs well. Known for its multiple qualities in terms of reliability and confort, the Citroën C6 represents a perfect expression of the French pre-war serial car. A genuine President car!
