1988 FORD ESCORT RS TURBO
Chassis No: WF0BXXGCABJG42275
Registration No: F399 GGW

This 1988 Rosso Red RS Turbo was delivered new by Bristol Street Motors of Kent to its first owner and director of Monnel Construction Ltd, on May 20th 1988. By 1989 the owner sold it to a member of his office staff, a Mrs B Gilbertson of Belmont in Surrey. She kept the RS for just over 18 years, with Pages Ford of Sutton servicing the car for her regularly. The 3rd owner was the Ford Tech who serviced the RS every year from Pages, who always said to Mrs Gilbertson that when she was ready to sell, he would like first refusal. He did not own it for very long as his very good friend Mr Robert Wiseman had always wanted an RS and managed to convince him to Sell. Rob, who is the current registered keeper locked the car away in his garage with the intent of giving it a mild restoration to bring the car back to its full potential. 7 years had passed, and now with a baby on the way, Robert realised that this was something that was probably not going to happen, so he offered the vendor the opportunity to sell the car on. Knowing the car and the history, he was more than happy to take on the task.

The car was taken to a very well known Ford specialist, where it had a full service, cam belt, spark plugs, battery and a fresh MoT. The next stop was to take the car to a well known vehicle restoration specialist. Four small areas of rust were treated, and the underside was cleaned and tidied up. All tiny spots of surface rust were ground back, etch primed and dusted over so the car is 100% rust free and ready for a lifetime of dry storage. Whilst work was carried out on the underside, the gearbox was sent to a specialist to be reconditioned as there was a slight crunch between 1st and 2nd gear. Upon inspection water had somehow made it into the box, so a full gearbox rebuild was needed. The LSD was cleaned up and refitted, and the suspension looked and felt a little tired, so oem spec replacement ones have been fitted. The radiator was also sent in for a recore.

The car has been professionally machine polished so the 30 year old paint looks amazing. It is excellent for its age, with only a few tiny stone chips on the front, and slight fading of the paint on the bodykit. Every panel including both front wings, rear quarters and windscreen scuttle panel are factory original, with ford ovals clearly visible. As for the interior of the car, it truly is in remarkable condition. It still has the factory stereo with quick start guide that hangs from volume button when sold from new. The original roof lining is as fresh as the day it rolled off the production line. The Boot floor is completely solid and still has the original panel stickers from the factory, which is extremely rare even for concours cars. It has all original windows with reg plates etched in. It still has the original 30 year old Bristol street motors tax disc, rear window sticker and number plates on.

It comes complete with all manuals and a full Ford service history, including a Ford invoice to correspond with every service stamp in the service book. It also has the 1,500 mile oil change receipt from 1988. The car also comes with all previous tax discs and MOT certificates, all filed into plastic sleeves in a red RS Turbo binder.

The car has matching engine and chassis numbers, and the engine performance has never been modified from factory setup. The car drives great, but as it does not do many miles the rear drums and actuator do stick from time to time, but it’s nothing a drive doesn’t usually rectify. The vendor has done his best to keep this car as original and honest as possible.
