1961 MGA 1600 Mk2
Estimate: £22,000 - £25,000.

Chassis number: GHN2102052 - This MkII example we are informed has the following background. Originally this car was dispatched new to its first owner in Ardrossan, Ayrshire in August 1961, possibly having been supplied by the Ayr branch of MG distributors 'A & D Fraser'. Over the early years of the car, its changed ownership a few times until in 1965 when a Glasgow gentleman, who we believe worked as an Aero Engineer, purchased the car and used it as his everyday mode of transport, as well as some continental trips, including one trip to Monte Carlo. That owner kept the car for 13 years and sold it in 1978 to a fellow Aero Engineer and the car moved to Dundee. After purchasing the car in 1978 and owning it for 30 years, that Dundee owner then sold is back to his fellow engineer in 2008, still with less than 50,000 miles on the clock. Business and family commitments meant the vehicle seen very little use, until 2015, when the person who we believe has provided the story of this MGA, purchased it for himself, who only covered 700 miles in 3 years of ownership. To which we believe it was then sold on to the current owner and vendor in late 2018. We are further informed, this vehicle still has the original hood, tonneau cover, sliding exterior door handles and door locks fitted from new, and an ASM branded luggage rack. The current owner and vendor has covered approximately 700 miles in 8 months with the example and also personally drove the car 70 to be with us at Errol. Further benefitting from some early photographs and a current MOT.

HISTORICS @ BROOKLANDS

Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey

1958 MG A COUPE
Registration No: 297 UXW
Chassis No: HMD13/50104

  • Nut and bolt detail perfect restoration
  • Rare original colour
  • Matching numbers car
When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados who had become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars. It was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. It was powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette saloon. The 'A' was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 5,869 cars were sold on the home market, giving the MGA the highest export percentage of any British car and was replaced by the MGB in May 1962.
This wonderful UK supplied right hand drive MGA Coupé has just completed a full nut and bolt, bare metal exacting restoration. Presented in its original and rare Mineral Blue it would be hard to find a better example anywhere. Such was the level of detail in the restoration that even the radiator has been re-cored with the original specification and pattern core at considerable expense. Whilst the interior was supplied as a high quality kit, it was then modified to the exact factory specification. An extra emphasis was put on retaining as many original factory parts as possible rather than just replacing parts with modern, cheap alternatives.
The restoration started off with a Hungarian enthusiast who had the engine fully rebuilt and who went through all the body taking it right back to bare metal before doing any repairs required and repainting the car. His metal work was second to none and he did a fantastic job. The current vendor bought the car off him as a rolling project and proceeded to put another 400 hours into the exacting restoration using A.D. Clausager’s Original MGA book as a guide.
A matching numbers example, this incredible car comes supplied with V5C registration document, a new MoT test certificate valid until July 2019 and a comprehensive history file including receipts from the engine rebuild, a selection of old MoT test certificates dating as far back as 1964, Heritage Certificate and photographic record of the restoration.
