Certainly a rare sight on this side of the world, this big and very orange muscle-bound Australian V8 sports saloon was based on the 2002-2005 Ford Falcon BA series, built in conjunction with Ford Australia's performance vehicle partner Ford Performance Vehicles known as FPV.

The performance range included the GT, GT-P and the Pursuit which was a Ute or pick-up as we know them here. All three models were fitted with the same 5.4-litre V8 lump found in Ford America’s Mustang Cobra R edition (good genes!) and came fitted with an aggressive body-kit and styling resembling the BA series Falcon supercar that competed in the much lauded and televised Bathurst 500 and 1000 racing series with huge success along with the Australian Touring Car series.

This 2003 model GT-P edition was imported to the UK in 2014 and has had three owners since. The eagle eyed amongst you might spot it states BOSS 290 on the engine top, this moniker relating to the engine’s name, the BOSS 290 reflecting the 290kW power (389bhp) but has BOSS 330 on the black carbon fibre bonnet plate which refers to the cubic inches hidden within - just so you know!

The car as you might expect, produces lots of torque, 380lb ft or 520Nm if you’re a modern individual, enough to give you some exciting performance with a great soundtrack and rear-drive fun. The car features big hugging leather and suede embossed bucket seats, manual transmission and the usual assortment of toys found in this sector of car – air con, cruise control, digital in car entertainment etc.

It has been well looked after and serviced when needed. The history file includes a stamped service book, handbook, some invoices and four old MOTs along with a current ticket until June 2020 with no advisories recorded.

We understand it has had an uprated racing clutch fitted and the carbon bonnet is a later addition. The odometer shows just 157,000km which is just 97,500 miles – not much for one of these given the size of its homeland. The private plate ‘AU51 TOY’ is included and lets those on the road know you are in your ‘Aussie-Toy’…

This genuine Ford Falcon Sprint was dispatched from the Ford factory in St Jose on the 27th of December 1964, imported into the UK in 1990, and subsequently registered. As a late ’64 model Sprint, the car features as standard the desirable 289 V8 and has been upgraded with a period Paxton supercharger. This period-correct supercharger was an option on the Shelby Mustangs of the '60s and recognised by Ford. Having spent the majority of its life in the kind climate of California and stored correctly since its import to the UK, this car is described by our vendor as “rock solid and corrosion-free”. It was upgraded in the late ‘90s and commissioned by accomplished track/hill climb driver John Atkins of AC Cobra fame. Accompanying the car is a large detailed history folder containing invoices for an engine and drive train rebuild by CES Power Ltd, a wealth of old MOTs, magazine features, and various supporting documents.

Designed for fast road use the rebuild includes;

Engine;

Period Paxton Supercharger, C.E.S POWER LTD built 289 V8, 5-bolt block , forged TRW pistons, Boss rods, 312-350 main caps and steels straps, larger stainless steel valves, flowed 302 heads, roller rockers, solid lifter cam, baffled sump, Holley 4-barrel double pumper carb, competition fuel pump, dynamo replaced by alternator, 3" stainless steel twin exhaust. A detailed 3-page parts/labour print out on engine build, including dyno readout of 350bhp. Since the rebuild, the engine has covered approximately 4,000 miles.

Chassis and drive-train;

5-speed T5 manual gearbox with heavy-duty Quaife internals, new HLX 70-4710 clutch recently fitted, lowered suspension, rose jointed links and Panhard rod, Detroit locker, Australian Falcon 1972/3 disc brakes and uprights. 7x15 Super-light wheels on 225/50/15 tyres. Monza fuel cap.

Interior;

Period bucket seats with Willans full harnesses, original radio rebuilt to F.M., Race-tech extra gauges including rev counter, oil temp and pressure, supercharger boost, multi-function rally clock, fuel pressure, 1960s clock from a MIG fighter, and a fire extinguisher.

In summary, this is a rare model, only in production for just one year, that has been re-engineered for fast road use in the UK and represents a good opportunity to purchase an interesting Ford from the swinging '60s. Sure to be the talk of any car show and, with some further upgrades, potentially suitable for historic rallying, track use, hill climbs and possibly circuit racing. Nothing beats the rush of adrenaline, waiting at the lights, supercharged V8 burbling away in front of you

 We are delighted to offer this beautiful 1961 Ford Falcon that has been restored to an outstanding standard. This Falcon arrived into the UK, circa 1984, in a very poor state whereupon it stood for some years until being acquired by a gentleman, in 1997, who had a vision of restoring this car to the standard on display today. Employing two full time specialists in his workshop, this vision was not realised until 2013, after the car had undergone a year of full time restoration.

The Falcon was completely stripped of all parts and the bodyshell sandblasted with all areas of corrosion replaced or fabricated and finished in the original colour of Cambridge Blue metallic. All mechanical parts, including suspension, brakes, and the wiring harness were not only rebuilt, overhauled or replaced, but also finished to the highest standard. The highly respected motor engineers, Belcher Engineering, rebuilt the engine, manual three-speed gearbox, rear axle and steering box. Over £30,000 of receipts sit on file. This is by no means all that was spent, as there is no record for many parts, including the chrome or labour; it is estimated that the total cost of this restoration was in excess of £100,000. The correct interior materials, including the headlining, were sourced from the USA and, we think you will agree, have been trimmed to an extraordinary standard, matching the incredible detail of this Falcon. Such is that detail, that, you may not have noticed that some of the side chrome strips, that were missing when the car arrived in the UK, have been hand fabricated and finished; we cannot spot which ones these were and you certainly cannot see the fabricated, bronze window winder rollers tucked away in the doors. Front lap belts are fitted and an original FM period radio, again sourced from the USA, has been fitted. All screen and door rubbers have been replaced as well of a set of whitewall tyres. We are informed that the silky smooth 170 cubic inch (2.8 litre) straight six engine starts and runs easily with drive transferred via the three-speed, floor mounted, manual gearbox, resulting with the car driving the way you would expect with a restoration of this quality. With less than 1,000 miles since its completion, this Falcon comes complete with its history file, photographs of before, during and post restoration, a UK V5C registration document and is surely a potential prize winning car that is ready to be enjoyed immediately.
