1951 AC 2-LITRE SALOON - BONHAMS AUCTIONS Collector's Cars & Automobilia Sale RAF Museum Hendon Thursday 21st November 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

BONHAMS AUCTIONS
Collector's Cars & Automobilia Sale
RAF Museum Hendon
Thursday 21st November 2019

1951 AC 2-LITRE SALOON
Registration no. UXG 747
Chassis no. EL1562
  • Introduced in 1947, the AC 2-Litre was a spacious and well-equipped touring car endowed with respectable (80mph) performance courtesy of the firm's long-established and ruggedly built overhead-cam six. Breathing through triple SU carburettors, the 1,991cc engine produced 76bhp and was coupled to a four-speed Moss gearbox. A variety of body styles - some coachbuilt - were available on the 2-Litre chassis, including a four-door model from late 1952. Production continued, to special order only, until 1958, by which time approximately 1,200 had been produced.

Previously registered 'LXL 261', this AC 2-Litre saloon was first registered on 2nd January 1951 to a Mr Poutney of the Meyer Liquid Company, London W1. The current vendor purchased the car at a regional auction in May 2006 when it was described as "an older restoration... stored virtually unused for a year and could do with a tune up. Said to be in good and tidy order generally". Contained within a large box file, accompanying documentation includes a (copy) buff logbook listing previous keepers in the 1970s; sundry 1980s bills from AC Cars; a quantity of expired MoTs; a V5C Registration Certificate; and MoT to July 2020. The car also comes with a (copy) AC owner's handbook and a copy of Leo Archibald's book, AC Two-Litre Saloons & Buckland Sports Cars. The vendor advises us that the engine would benefit from attention (points, etc) to improve running.

1951 LEA - FRANCIS 14hp ESTATE - H&H AUCTIONEERS Imperial War Museum sale IWM Duxford Wednesday 16th October 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

H&H AUCTIONEERS
Imperial War Museum sale
IWM Duxford
Wednesday 16th October 2019

1951 LEA - FRANCIS 14hp ESTATE
Registration No:JWF 967
Chassis No:9178
MOT:Exempt

- Rare and desirable woody estate vehicle by A P Morris of Stoke Row, Coventry

- Long term previous owner and a unique opportunity

- Only 20 of the 400 woodies made are now known to the Lea Francis Owners' Club

Further info:

Estate versions of Lea-Francis's 14hp model were manufactured by a number of coachbuilders between 1946 and 1953, and it was in 1951 that this handsome example vacated the company's Much Park Street production facility bound for A P Morris of Stoke Road Coventry where its attractive `woody' bodywork was constructed. Only 20 of the 400 woodies made are now known to the Lea Francis Owners' Club, making `JWF 967' a rare car by any standards. Its varnished wood panelling is complemented by Silver coachwork, a Black Everflex roof and Brown leather interior trim. Very evidently the subject of a thorough restoration at some stage, it is presently considered by the vendor to have `very good' four-cylinder engine and four-speed transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery. The current keeper acquired the `Leaf' in 2018 for the purpose of weekend shoots, prior to which there had only been two previous owners. A unique opportunity to acquire a practical classic of real character.

1951 BENTLEY SHRIVE SPECIAL
Registration No: LVM 24
Chassis No: B50KM
Engine No: B25K
Estimate: £45,000 - £52,000

hen the Bentley Motor company ran into financial difficulties during the late 1920’s they were purchased by Rolls-Royce who created a new company, Bentley Motors (1931) Ltd. Under the stewardship of Rolls-Royce, the new company launched the 3.5 litre Bentley model to instant success and universal praise. 1936 saw the introduction of the 4.25-litre model which replaced the 3.5-litre version. Both the chassis and power units for these models were popular bases for special models, giving potential buyers a great deal of choice in the look of their new car.
This 1951 Bentley Special was one of 31 built by Geoffrey Shrive on a Mk. VI R-Type and uses a 4.25 litre Bentley engine. It is listed on page 281 of the book ‘The Crewe Cars’. In 2014 the vendor commissioned a restoration of this Shrive special for a road trip from the U.K to Lake Como. The vendor describes this Bentley as having the combination of effortless power and style. This four-door tourer was built in the style of an early W.O Bentley and presents well in green. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document, this MoT test exempt Bentley special is a magnificent vehicle to drive.
