  1951 LEA FRANCIS 14hp Saloon
Registration No: MKF 553
Chassis No: 9588
Engine No: 8719
Estimate: NO RESERVE

R H. Lea and G. I. Francis started making bicycles in Coventry in 1895 at branched out into car manufacturing in 1903. Originally building cars under licence for the Singer Company, they started to build their own cars in 1919. In 1922, Lea-Francis formed a relationship with Vulcan of Southport sharing manufacturing and dealers. Vulcan supplied bodies and, in return, got gearboxes and steering gears. The Lea-Francis company produced some notable motorcycles and cars but financial difficulties surfaced on a regular basis. The original production site was abandoned in 1937 and moved to different site in Coventry were it stayed until finally closing in 1962. Registered in February of 1951, this 14hp Lea-Francis saloon has been in the vendor’s family for the last 14 years. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and reassuringly, although exempt, an MoT test certificate valid until November, 2019. The history file for this Coventry saloon car contains various bills and invoices as well as an instruction book and number of owners club magazines. Benefitting from a sunroof and looking well in dark green, we are informed that MKF 553 runs well. Offered without reserve, this rare model presents an inexpensive opportunity to own a British classic
