Packard was renowned as a manufacturer of premier luxury automobiles, and by the late `30s the majority of its sales were still of sumptuous eight-cylinder-engined cars to wealthy customers. However, keen to expand and simultaneously take account of the impending recession, in 1937 it reintroduced a six-cylinder model to its range for the first time in nine years. The 1939 Ivory-coloured example now offered is a lefthand drive Sedan Tourer that has benefited from an extensive restoration around 1998. Since being acquired by the vendor it's been treated to a new radiator, dynamo, 16" Kenlowe fan and electric fuel pump, while the rest of the fuel system has been given a thorough overhaul. He presently grades the straight-six engine as `excellent', the Mottled Brown interior trim as `very good', and the Sedan bodywork and three-speed manual transmission as `good'. The Packard boasts its original heater and radio, both of which are still fully operational.

Last change of keeper shown as August 1983. This amazing little pre-war family saloon comes in grey with original blue upholstery and comes with its original buff log book and  an early V5. The chrome work is wrapped and stored in the car, as is a replacement battery.

1939 STOEWER R200 SPECIAL TROOP CARRIER

Stoewer-Werke manufactured the RISC Spezial four/five-seat cross-country car between 1936 and 1938 when it was replaced by the larger engined R200 which remained in production until 1940. Between 1937 and 1940 similar vehicles were also produced by BMW (Typ 325) and Hanomag [Typ 20B). Although the products of each manufacturer differed, both in detail and in the choice of power unit, the vehicle was designed on what was described as the Einheits Leicht Gelandegangige Personenkraftwagen chassis – “standardized light field car”.

Unfortunately, the intended interchangeability of power units was compromised by details such as differing fuel supply and exhaust outlet positions. Regardless of origin, the engine was linked to the wheels via a five-speed gearbox and single-speed transfer box. Self-locking differentials were fitted in both axles as well as in the transfer box. The suspension was independent on all four wheels, using upper and lower wishbones and coil springs. The earliest examples had four-wheel Steering and four-wheel drive, but this proved to offer no particular advantage in off-road use and was eventually abandoned as being dangerous.

Alongside the four- to five-seat field car (Kfz 1), standard variants included a communications vehicle (Kfz 2), maintenance/repair vehicle (Kfz 2/40) and surveillance vehicle (Kfz 3). In all cases, the bodies were built by Ambi-Budd Stanzerie, Berlin. A very rare car to find available on the open market, especially in this condition, this four to five-seat field example has recently been the subject to a comprehensive restoration. Complete with its weather equipment, this is possibly a unique opportunity.

1939 DKW 200 MOTORCYCLE

During the late 1920s and until WWII broke out, DKW was the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer and the pioneer of front wheel drive automobiles with their DKW Front, along with the Citroen Traction Avant. In 1931, Arnold Zoller started building split-singles and this concept made DKW the dominant racing motorcycle in the Lightweight and Junior classes between the wars. This included off-road events like the International Six Days Trial where the marque scored some considerable inter-war year successes alongside Bavarian Motor Works At the same time, the company also had some success with super-charged racing motorcycles which because of their lightweight were particularly successful in the ISDT

This beautiful and original example which has clearly been well looked after throughout its life comes fitted with both a luggage box and medikit.
