1982 ALFA ROMEO GTV 2.0 ALFETTA

Offered for sale is a 2.0L 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 Alfetta manual that has been with the current owner for the last year. Coming with an extensive history file, this lot's condition scores an impressive 101 / 135.

1977 ALFA ROMEO ALFETTA SALOON

The Alfetta series introduced in 1972 was named after the all-conquering racing cars of the immediate post-war era when Alfa Romeo won every single Grand Prix in 1950.

The new range of cars shared the racing cars’ transaxle design, whereby the gearbox is mounted in unit with the De Dion rear axle, resulting in a near ideal weight distribution. The cars were initially available only as a saloon, later joined by the sports GTV models in 1974.  

The 1977 Alfetta offered here is equipped with Alfa’s magnificent twin-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine in 1.8-litre (122bhp) form, and mated to a smooth five-speed gearbox. Once a common sight all over Europe it appears there are only three currently on the road in the UK.

If it were not rare enough being one of 3 left, this one has covered only 25,837 miles!

First registered on 1st August 1977 it was purchased by Mr Vincenzo Cala from Walton on Thames who drove it regularly when in the UK. In 1992 it had covered 17,562 miles, whereupon Mr Cala took the car to Sicily where it was driven sparingly, and the climate no doubt helped preserve it. There is a Sicilian invoice on file from 1998 when the car recieved some attention to its suspension.  It appears that the car remained with him in Sicily until his return in 2011. There are 20 old MOTs on file from its time in the UK that show the gradually increasing mileage.

The Vendor purchased the Alfa from Mr Cala, now in his eighties, in January this year and has added less than 1000 miles. He has, however rebuilt the carburettors and replaced the exhaust.

Although not perfect, with some tiny blisters along the door bottoms, this car appears to be in exceptionally good condition. The rear seats appear never have been used, and the dashboard, trim and roof lining look as good as the day they were installed. The chrome shows the odd ding here and there, but there did not appear to be any wear or marks that you would not find on a 25,000 mile car!

One that perhaps would appeal most to an ardent Alfa Romeo fan, it is a lovely example that deserves to be driven -just a little!
