The DB18 was produced from Daimler’s Coventry works between 1939 and 1953. Various Coachbuilders offered their own bodies, this being an elegant three position Drophead Coupe by Barker. Power comes from the six-cylinder 2.5-litre engine as originally specified for the Army’s Scout Car. Reliability was thus important yet it offers refined power and drives through a  recently overhauled, four-speed pre-select gearbox to the rear axle. There is a single SU carburettor fed by an AC mechanical pump.
The present owner acquired the motor car some thirty years ago. He had the body stripped to bare metal and resprayed in Royal blue and grey with a pleasing red coachline. Being a well-established coach trimmer by profession, he undertook a complete refurbishment of the interior in his own workshops, providing lovely red leather seats and a high-quality mohair hood, fully lined and having the ability to be used in three separate positions.
The motor car has become well known over the years, appearing in local shows and events. Sadly due to the poor health of its owner, it has had very few outings in recent years and now that driving is no longer possible for him, the owner has decided it is time this lovely old Daimler found a new home.
KXR 627 is offered with a V5C registration certificate, a sheaf of old MOT test certificates, some photographs of the aforementioned restoration, a workshop handbook, a spare parts catalogue and sundry spare parts.
