  • Ideal for the holiday home, export, entry-level enthusiast or maybe a stablemate for other classic sports cars
The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 as a direct replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Pininfarina with sweeping curves and aggressive lines, the 308 has gone on to become one of the most recognised Ferraris of all time. Fitted with a 2.9 litre DOHC V8 engine fed by four Webber 40DCNF Carburettors, the power output of 255bhp was sufficient to propel the 308 from 0 to 60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 159 mph. In 1980, the decision was taken to replace the carburettors with fuel injection, unfortunately reducing the engine output from 255 to 214 bhp, meaning that the earlier carburettor cars, like this one, are significantly quicker. The 308 was manufactured in both GTB and GTS (Spider) forms from 1977 to 1985, before being replaced by the 328. In hindsight, connoisseurs of Ferrari from this era consider the version to have is a Euro-spec, steel-bodied car with a dry sump and carburettors, which is exactly what we have offered here.
This left-hand drive Ferrari 308 GTS was delivered new to Amsterdam on the 2nd of January 1981 in arguably the most sought after colour combination of Rosso Corsa (red) paint with Nero (black) leather seating and black carpets. It’s currently showing 125,234 km on the odometer which equates to little over 78,000 miles in total, supported by the original service book stamped up-to-date. Clearly, this example has been lavished with attention since arriving in the UK in 1997 visiting highly regarded marque specialists for maintenance and service work as detailed in a number of invoices found within the history folder. Most recently, this 308 visited QV London for an annual service including all fluids and some general repair work at 124,984 km and is offered with the original book pack, Ferrari sales literature, a history folder including old MOTs, a wealth of invoices and a clean MOT expiring on 12 August 2020.
This handsome, steel-bodied 308 GTS offered at a realistic guide, in good colours with a detailed history file, represents superb value in our opinion and a left-hand drive example could turn out to be an astute purchase with a wide market of potential buyers when the time comes to sell. In the meantime, enjoy classic Ferrari ownership with a lively V8 behind you and the wind in your hair.
