SATURDAY 25th NOVEMBER 2017
MERCEDES BENZ WORLD, WEYBRIDGE SURREY

1970 MARCOS GT 3.O Litre
Registration Number - BPD 222H
Chassis Number - 5592
Engine Number - NC26751
Estimate - £18,000 - £24,000

The car was first introduced as the Marcos 1800 in 1964, with a wooden chassis and a Volvo P1800 engine, although later models had a steel chassis and commonly Ford engines. As was the intent with most Marcos products, the GT series saw much competition use. The original 1800 and other 1960’s and 1970’s Marcos are still competitive in both FIA and HSCC (UK) historic racing series. New at the October 1968 London Motor Show was the more powerful Marcos '3 Litre', fitted with the Ford Essex V6 engine and transmission from the Ford Zodiac. The '3 Litre' has a four-speed manual gearbox with a Laycock-de-Normanville Overdrive for the third and fourth gears. As the bonnet was a close fit over the various larger engines, this resulted in a corresponding variation in the bonnet design, the changes were designed to clear engine air intakes and often the only external sign of the type of engine fitted. All inline-sixes required a rather angular bulge right of the centre on the bonnet to clear the carburettors. The three litre version achieved over 120mph on test drive.

This rare Marcos GT has been owned by the vendor for the last three years and he has invested both time and money to bring this up to the excellent standard she is in today. The 2994cc Ford Essex power plant is an engine that sounds great and is very responsive when requested. The red fibreglass coachwork is in good order and the black leather trim is exquisite. The low slung and aesthetically pleasing driving position is synonymous with British sports cars of the era and the wooden dashboard with an easy to read array of dials and switches offers a touch of class. Described by the vendor as being “like driving a go-kart”. This Marcos is supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until November 2018, together with a collection of invoices.
