1981 DELOREAN DMC-12

John Z Delorean’s superb track record as a General Motors Executive was beyond dispute, and it was in large part this reason which convinced the British Government to make a huge investment in the plans for the DeLorean Motor Company’s Belfast factory, to build a spectacular new sports car. Contrary to popular opinion he very nearly succeeded; the factory got built, all in the remarkably short period of three years.

The innovative stainless steel body and hulling doors were well integrated into a strikingly attractive design by legendary Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro; even today a DMC-12 will stop traffic like few other cars. However, cash flow issues, and a bleak economic climate, sales eventually overwhelmed the company and forced them into receivership in 1982.
Chassis D001086 is a left-hand drive example with black interior and was delivered in 1981. Purchased by the current owner from DMC Florida in January 2015 after having DeLorean replace the seats and door seals. The car was first registered in the UK 6 months later and was subject to a battery replacement, all new brakes and fitted with a UK standard fog light.
Since arrival in the UK has only been driven socially by the current owner and kept under cover, along with a current UK V5, a new MoT has been completed as well as a full service, replacing the oil and filters.

We expect the car to be much in demand as Deloreans have become cult vehicles for both motor car, and of course since the celebrated ‘Back to the Future’ movies, film enthusiasts. With DMC-12s gaining momentum in the collector’s car market, it is a joy to offer such a well-sorted example.
