Further Information:

Introduced in 1965, the updated Rover P5 3-Litre MKIII was visually distinguished by a subtler front grille and full-length chrome side mouldings. Utilising the same underpinnings and sheetmetal as its MKII predecessor but boasting more horsepower (134bhp), the newcomer offered a similarly cosseting driving experience. Benefiting from the adoption of reclining front seats and a more sculpted rear bench, the model was again available in saloon or coupe guises (the latter sporting a lower roofline). Only in production for two years, just 2,501 MKIII Coupes are thought to have been made.

This particular example shows just two former keepers on its V5C Registration Document. Supplied new to Hicklin & Hicklin, Surveyors, Auctioneers, Valuers and Estate Agents, of Beckenham Kent and initially road registered as 'PPA 2', the Rover was subject to a wealth of correspondence in its early years between South London Motors Ltd, The Rover Company Ltd, the RAC and the aforementioned Hicklins all of which is documented in the accompanying history file. Treated to a thorough engine overhaul by Ottringham Garage in 1999-2000 (new pistons, main / big-end bearings, oil pump gears, timing chain / tensioner, unleaded cylinder head conversion), the P5 was entrusted to Chelmsford Autogas Ltd for a professional LPG conversion some nine years later. Further upgraded with a Kenlowe fan, K&N air filter and halogen headlights, the MKIII Coupe was proudly displayed on the Marauder Drivers' Club stand at the 2014 NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.

Starting readily upon inspection, 'WGU 207F' has been used by the vendor for a number of tours during which its low running costs on LPG, effective heater, working Webasto sunroof and long-legged four-speed manual plus overdrive transmission have all proven their worth. Pleasingly retaining its original Cream leather upholstery, the Rover is believed but not warranted to have covered some 47,000 miles from new. Offered for sale with UK V5C Registration Document, history file, owner's maintenance manual, original order form and first tax disc etc.
