HISTORICS @ BROOKLANDS
Saturday 22nd September 2018
Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey

1959 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD
Registration No: 601 XUC
Chassis No: 59G054944

By the late 1950s Fleetwood-ladled bodies were becoming rarer and rarer at Cadillac and the Series 75 was among the last, although rather subtly, Fleetwood script and crests did not appear anywhere on the exterior of the car. The 1959 Cadillacs, with their amazing exaggerated tailfins and ‘bullet’ rear lights created a sensation on their introduction and have remained among the most celebrated and collectable of all post-war models. The frontal aspect of the design was equally extraordinary with a massive chrome grille. The cars were available as saloons, coupés and convertibles and were designed to offer the most lavishly equipped motoring in the world and accordingly this example is fully fitted with fingertip sensitive power steering, ‘Wonder Bar’ radio and air conditioning and cruise control. The car was intended to represent the state of the art in motoring terms at the dawn of the space age; more than fifty years later the car still stands out as a startling creation.
This outstanding Cadillac Fleetwood presents in excellent order throughout, the metallic blue paintwork is in good order and is a colour that suits this classic American car. The blue interior complements the exterior colour and the ample chromework that can be found both on the outside and interior of this car is a great reminder of what magnificent cars Cadillac built in this era. The 6300cc V8 engine sounded superb when started and we are advised by the vendor she drives with no known faults. The rear fins on this Fleetwood are a thing of beauty; this really is an eye-catching Cadillac. Supplied with a V5C registration document, why not impress your neighbours - just make sure your garage is big enough!
