1971 FIAT 500 GIARDINIERA
Registration No - HGU 664J
Chassis No - 120272166
Engine No - 1200000480232

he Nuova 500 is a masterpiece of packaging; the rear-wheel drive, rear-engined layout leaving a remarkably uncluttered cabin with adequate room for four passengers, despite the diminutive length of just 9.7ft. At its introduction in 1957, the little Fiat was powered by a twin-cylinder engine of 479cc and just 13bhp but by the time of the later 500F the capacity had grown to 499cc and the output to 22bhp - sufficient for a maximum speed of around 60mph combined with a fuel consumption of over 50mpg. In 1967, Autobianchi commenced building the Giardiniera (estate) in Desio, Italy.

This lovely Giardiniera car was discovered in a private collection in Northern Italy during August 2016 and was subsequently imported to the UK in September 2016. On inspection, you may discover how very clean and tidy the Positano yellow coachwork is and, as with all Giardinieras, it features suicide doors. The condition of the interior and engine compartment matches the rest of this car, perhaps suggesting that the recorded 89,209km (55,431 miles) is original. The history folder contains a dating letter from Fiat confirming that this example was registered in Italy on 11th October 1971, as well as, a NOVA certificate and a UK V5 registration document whilst we are informed that the 500 will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. With the Fiat 500 now in its 60th anniversary year, this example, offered without reserve, offers something a little different and practical and in such a small package
