1948 LANCHESTER LD10 DROP HEAD By ABBOTT

The LD10 was designed by Lanchester in 1939 but the production was delayed by the Second World War and only started in 1945 when Edward D Abbott took two chassis, complete with engines, from the Lanchester Works and had two Drop Head Coupes made by his coach builders in Farnham. The first was registered in 1947 and this, the second built, was registered in 1948 and was the property of Mrs Margaret Abbott, wife or Edward Abbott the proprietor.

Only two were made and both survive and both are in near Concours condition. This car finished its restoration in April last year and is now described by the vendor to be in superb condition and ready for a collector or museum to purchase. The car cruises well at 50 MPH on its 1287 cc engine and the pre select gearbox and fluid flywheel work very well. The interior is in exceptional condition and it is a pleasure just to sit in the car.

1974 BOND BUG 700ES

This very nice and well known in “Bug Circles” 700ES underwent full restoration in the early 2000s during which is was upgraded to a 750cc. Having in its life twice won “Best Bond Bug in Britain”, had a celebrity owner and has featured on the cover of magazines.

Now having just had some re-commissioning work carried out including a new carburettor and will have a new MOT it is ready once more for a new owner.

1979 PONTIAC TRANS-AM

This superb Pontiac has been totally restored from bare metal. All new floors, new trunks and inner wings taking well over a year to complete (pictorial evidence of work done available). Not just the metal work was replaced also all new glass, new lights, totally rewired, new mouldings, a completely retrimmed including door cards and carpet.The original 400 cu 6.6-litre engine and transmission were refreshed and retained. Originally the car was gold with beige velour interior but the vendor had always wanted a red with a black interior car, not being able to find a good enough car in red he built himself this one. Described as “truly driving as good as new and one of the best on the market today”.

1968 WOLSELEY HORNET

This delightful Wolseley Hornet has only 72k on the clock and just two owners from new, the last one for the past 7 years, during which he has restored the car mechanically. The brakes and clutch have been renewed including all the cylinders, the cylinder head was restored and refitted with all new gaskets and now it drives very well.

Bodywork has been resprayed at some point and while very presentable, would benefit from a good cut and polish, while the interior was good enough to leave original so has that nice patina of age still.

During all this work he kept a diary plus all the bills for parts etc, a labour of love not for profit but unfortunately, a sudden failing of site has meant that he now has to sell.

Coming with its original bill of sale and owners hand book plus a valid MOT until next July he really wants this rare little car to go to a good home and be looked after how he has, we are sure it will.

1962 JAGUAR MkII 2.4Litre

The Jaguar Mark 2 is a medium-sized saloon car built from late 1959 to 1967 by Jaguar in Coventry, England. Adhering to Sir William Lyons' maxim of "grace, pace and space", the Mark 2 was a fast and capable saloon. It came with either a 120 bhp 2,483 cc, 210 bhp 3,442 cc, or 220 bhp 3,781 cc Jaguar XK engine. The 3.8 is similar to the unit used in the 3.8 E-Type, having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons but different inlet manifold and carburetion.

The Mark 2 gained a reputation as a capable car among criminals and law enforcement alike; the 3.8 Litre model being particularly fast with its 220 bhp engine driving the car from 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds and to a top speed of 125 mph, with enough room for five adults. Popular as getaway cars, they were also employed by the police to patrol British motorways.

The vendor has owned this Jaguar MK2 2.4 for 35 years, and he describes the car as being in lovely condition. It is said to drive very well, and there is no known rust. There have been many parts replaced over the years but there are a few small jobs that the car would benefit from to bring it back up to scratch.

1971 LOTUS ELAN S4

The original Elan 1500 was introduced in 1962 as a roadster. After a very short production run of just 22 cars, the engine was enlarged and the car was redesignated the Elan 1600. An optional hardtop was offered in 1963 and a coupé version in 1965. The two-seat Lotus Elan replaced the elegant, but unreliable and expensive to produce Lotus Elite.

It was the first Lotus road car to use a steel backbone chassis with a fibreglass body. At 726 kg, the Elan embodied the Colin Chapman minimum weight design philosophy. Initial versions of the Elan were also available as a kit to be assembled by the customer. The Elan was technologically advanced with a DOHC 1557 cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and 4-wheel independent suspension. Gordon Murray, the designer of the McLaren F1 supercar, reportedly said that his only disappointment with the McLaren F1 was that he couldn’t give it the perfect steering of the Lotus Elan.

The car presented here today was taken off the road some 38 years ago by the previous owner, awaiting the time for a full restoration. The then owner never managed to find the time and hence the car remained off the road for such a long period. In 2012 the current vendor liberated the Elan and set about an extensive bare chassis restoration. This rebuild took over two and a half years to complete, a testament to the dedication and precision of the work carried out.

The car is now in excellent condition throughout and there is a large history file with supporting photographs for all the work carried out. Finished in Cirrus white with the contrasting black interior, this is a near-concourse condition car ready to be taken to shows or used daily. The car benefits from a current MOT and UK V5C registration.

1961 PORSCHE 356B COUPE

DESIRABLE SUPER 90 ENGINE

The 356B, produced from 1960 through 1963, represents the mid-point in this design’s progression. In what is known as “T5” form, the B introduced new front and rear sheet-metal, while retaining the curved front trunk lid and rounded fenders of the 356A series. The B also added some features demanded by American customers, such as raised front and rear bumpers with over-riders to better protect the body from parking mishaps. The headlamps were raised, a larger hood handle added, and front vent windows appeared in the doors. Mechanically, the gearbox and drum brakes were upgraded. A new steering wheel and column refreshed the interior, along with redesigned rear seats.

In the late 1980s, the Porsche 356 was finding new favour with collectors who increasingly performed high-end restorations and trailered their cars from show field to show field. But Emory Motorsports of Oregon revived the Porsche hot-rod scene by slapping on fat wheels, hot engines and lots of period rally parts to then go out drive their cars hard. They were nicknamed “Outlaws” as they flew in the face of the mainstream 356 community and their cars were far from the pampered concourse queens that dominated the scene. Since that time, the “outlaw” name stuck and has become synonymous with hot 356 Porsches of all types.

Completed at Porsche in 1961 as a B-model, this 356 Coupe was finished in Aetna Blue. This attractive 356 B hot rod is a fabulous example of this now classic “outlaw” style. It is finished in a non-standard metallic green, with subtle ‘Outlaw’ works carried out by previous US owners, before import to the U.K by the current owner from the U.S dry state of Nevada. Powering the car is the desirable Super 90 that was subject to a rebuild in 2011.

To complete the ‘Outlaw’ look, bumpers have been removed and original seats have been replaced with 911 RS Replica bucket seats. The originals remain with the car, so any new owner could, if they wish, return the car to a more standard 356B specification. The vehicle comes complete with a history file dating from 2011 and a current UK V5 registration document.
