One of the most versatile and talented racers of the 1950s and 1960s, Jack Sears made a name for himself in saloon car racing a variety of cars over many years. Known as 'Gentleman Jack', as a result of his immaculate appearance and impeccable manners, he also excelled in other disciplines and was a serious competitor in his AC Cobra.
Jack had already won the inaugural 1958  British Saloon Car Championship in an Austin Westminster but his decision to attempt to replicate that success in 1963 in an enormous Galaxie 500 met with some amusement. He proved the doubters wrong, however, when he took to the saloon car grid with the 7-litre Ford. Nobody believed a car so large could be competitive against more nimble cars like the Mini and Lotus Cortina, but the leviathan proved surprisingly wieldy. Its straight-line performance was also more than capable of seeing off the competition, and he claimed the 1963 title having raced the Galaxie, a Lotus Cortina, and a Ford Cortina GT all in one season.

This stunning, and very rare, race-prepared Ford Galaxie was built by Richard Butterfield as a replica of that legendary 1963 Galaxie 500 driven by the late Jack Sears. In fact, this special piece of Americana was prepared for Lord March himself and has also raced at the wonderful Goodwood Revival and various high profile events run by the team at ‘Masters’.

There is a fresh Peter Knight-built V8 under the bonnet and our vendor describes the car as "in good all round race condition". With demand ever increasing for Goodwood entries and other high profile events, this rare beastie looks to offer unique potential access to the biggest and best Historic events on the planet.
