1965 Royal Enfield Continental GT

A 1965 Royal Enfield Continental GT, registration number CEN 816C, frame number 71292, engine number GT18113, red. Based on Royal Enfield's Crusader the Continental GT was a true production café racer. They encapsulated all the style of a works road racer that a young motorcyclist could ask for, with rear sets, clip on handle bars, sporty dual two tone seat, five speed gearbox and natty fly screen. Performance and handling were also exemplary as was witnessed by Royal Enfield's John o'Groats to Lands End winter of '64 publicity run where a stock machine covered the distance in 20 hours and 20 minutes including a performance test thrash round the Siverstone race circuit. This Continental GT was restored by a previous owner and has seen little use since, forming part of a private collection in recent times. Due to the motorcycles recent inactivity, it would be advised that the motorcycle would benefit from a general shakedown and check over before taking to the road. The GT is offered to auction with the accompanying history file which contains a Sothebys purchase receipt (1992), previous MOTs, receipts, VMCC dating letter, parts catalogue and instruction book. V5C, no MOT, tax exempt
