1965 MERCEDES BENZ 220SE COUPE
Registration Number: DEY 845C
Chassis Number: 11102112200007

The Mercedes-Benz W111 series was produced from 1959 to 1968 and was one of Mercedes top-range vehicles. They were elegant and well built vehicles aimed at wealthy or successful individuals who appreciate a finer finish to their motorcars. In 1957 the design began for the two-door Pontons. Most of the chassis and drive train were to be unified with the saloon and therefore the emphasis was on exterior styling. Some of the prototypes show that Mercedes-Benz attempted to give the two-door car a front styling similar to the Pagoda Roadster, whilst the rear bodywork was officially still called a 'fintail' although the rear end design had no chrome fin highlights. Production began in late 1960 and the Coupé was premiered in Stuttgart for the 75th anniversary of the opening of Mercedes-Benz Museum. The 220 SE Coupé variant was met with instant success and Mercedes-Benz went on to produce 14,173 examples.

This highly collectable example presents a combination that is most striking; Mercedes-Benz black with a contrasting blood red leather interior. The condition of both can safely be described as extremely good throughout. This is because this example underwent a full restoration in 2016 whilst with its previous Dutch owner. The restoration included a complete strip down (interior out) to bare metal and a full repaint. All the seating was re-upholstered and then re-constructed in the correct Mercedes-Benz fashion. The wooden dash and door cappings were all beautifully fitted and are now as new. In 2017 this Pillarless Coupé was given to renowned Mercedes-Benz specialists, SS Motors of Weybridge to ensure that the engine is set up beautifully. This W111 carries one of the most elegant profiles of all postwar Mercedes-Benz and is offered with a UK registration document. This car is reported to drive very well and has the overall appearance of a car that has had much care and attention lavished upon it.
