1955 FORD THAMES

Commercial vehicles, especially vans, are becoming more and more collectible and useable not only simply for the enthusiast but also for very sound commercial reasons.
The Ford E83W 10cwt (half ton) van was built between 1938 & 1957 and was aimed at light haulage companies, tradesman and market traders who required a medium size utility vehicle. They were a common sight on roads for many years although, like all commercial vehicles, survival rates are now extremely low.
This charming 1955 Ford Thames van is an E83W model and had one owner from 1977 through to February 2016. Finished in green with contrasting black wings with signwriting to the doors in the name of H.R Hodge Television Engineers of South Petherton, it exudes character throughout. Fully rebuilt a number of years ago, it is supplied with a history file and a large set of restoration photographs. The van benefits from having a full sunroof that extends well over the rear of the cargo area and side windows to the rear which allow more light and make it more user friendly but can also be covered to give a more authentic look. With most vans leading a tough commercial life, it is rare to find an example in such good condition.
