1955 FORD ZEPHYR Mk I CONVERTIBLE

A 1955 left hand drive Ford Zephyr Six Mk I convertible, registration number NSJ 854, ivory. First seen at the 1950 Earl’s Court Motor Show the new Zephyr and its four cylinder sibling Consul would go into production on 1st January 1951. The Zephyr Six would appear initially as a four door saloon, but was soon followed by Ford approved convertibles manufactured by Carbodies, which featured an electro-hydraulic folding roof and the large and imposing estate by Abbot’s of Farnham. This particular rare left hand drive convertible has been in one family ownership for the majority of its life and is believed to be less than 40,000 miles from new. It was originally supplied to a family in Rabat, Morocco, who moved the car with them to France in 1990. They would keep the Zephyr for a further few years before selling it to a Ford Zephyr Club member in the late 1990s. This very original Zephyr is finished in ivory with a green roof, matching cream leather interior with green piping and carpets. The previous owner wished to retain as much originality as possible but has restored the engine, gearbox, back axle, suspension, brakes, steering and auxiliaries to create a reliable and enjoyable car to drive. All of this work was carried out less than 200 miles ago. The current vendor, who acquired the car approximately three years ago, advises us that the original stencilled Morocco registration number is still visible behind the rear number plate and the previous owner installed a very ingenious steering column switch for the Laycock overdrive which looks to all intents and purposes a factory fitted item. The Zephyr comes to auction with an accompanying history file which contains correspondence from the original family, receipts and ephemera. This charming car is now for sale because the vendor is rationalizing his collection and has acquired a fully restored saloon example to take its place. V5C, MOT and tax exempt
