1989 MG MONTEGO EFi - HISTORICS AUCTIONS Saturday 25th September 2021 Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot Berkshire SL5 7JX

OUR FEATURED AUCTION
HISTORICS AUCTIONS
Saturday 25th September 2021
Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot
Berkshire SL5 7JX

1989 MG MONTEGO EFi
Registration No: F914 GAK
Chassis No: SAXXEYLU7BM500553
Engine No: 20HE130106450
No Reserve

Very low mileage
Timewarp condition
Fully stamped service history booklet

Produced by British Leyland and latterly the Rover Group between 1984 and 1995, the Montego started life as a four-door hatchback. The high-performance MG version was offered using a 2.0-litre engine and used the solid-state instrument cluster, trip computer, and synthesised voice for the information and warning systems. Essentially a Maestro with a boot, a total of 34,476 2.0i cars were produced with a further 7,276 Turbo’s, survivors now being very scarce.

This rare MG Montego EFi has the 1994cc fuel injected straight-four engine and manual five-speed gearbox. Finished in complementary white with grey cloth interior, the EFi has only covered an incredibly low 31,402 miles from new. First registered in May 1989, the condition of the car is remarkable and must be seen to be believed. Not only is the condition of the car incredibly good and the mileage very low, the car also boasts being supplied with all of its original booklets and guides, as well as servicing invoices from its life. The vendor describes the car as outstanding and a pleasure to drive with everything working as you would hope.

Supplied with a UK V5C registration document, all of its booklets, (including its fully stamped service booklet), old invoices and a spare key. Perhaps not your obvious classic, but an important part of British automotive history and in a condition second to none, this is a rare opportunity to own a time warp condition example.

OUR FEATURED AUCTION

H&H Auctions
Imperial War Museum Sale
Duxford, Cambridgeshire CB22 4QR
8th September 2021

1999 [1989] Royale Sabre
Registration No: G942 BBM
Chassis No:  RS1297021
Guide Price: £12,000 - £15,000

  • Presented in Turquoise over Orange as a tribute to the Delahaye 135M Cabriolet
  • Offered with 3 folders of documentation including built instructions, wiring diagrams, spare parts list and invoices totalling over £15,000
  • Displays just 2 former keepers on the V5 Document

The Royale Motor Co was founded by one of the UK’s foremost kit car design talents, John Barlow, in 1990. His second model, the Sabre appeared in 1994. This was a sporty two-seater convertible with the chassis and drive technology of the Ford Scorpio or Sierra. From this model, which was offered by other manufacturers have recently emerged so far about 260 copies

Completed in June 1999, G942 BBM was created as a homage to the Delahaye 135M Cabriolet and was initially based on a 1989 Ford Sierra 2.0 GL with 5spd manual gearbox and features 2 pack polyurethane acrylic paint with flexible additives to reduce crazing. The vehicle received further improvements in November 2000 with the use of parts from a 1990 Ford Sierra GLS including a DOHC injected engine, power steering and all-around disc brakes.

G942 BBM has recently benefited from the radiator being re-cored in May 2021 and is offered alongside 3 folders of documentation including built instructions, wiring diagrams, spare parts list and invoices totalling over £15,000. In addition, the vehicle is registered as a Royale Convertible on the V5 document, which also shows just 2 former keepers. The vendor rates the condition of the bodywork, engine, electrical equipment, paintwork, transmission and gearbox and interior trim all as ‘Very Good.'

  • A 1990-spec example registered on the 09/11/1989 supplied new by Lindsay Cars Ltd., an RS main dealer in Lisburn, NI
  • An immaculate example in very original unrestored condition, with all original panels and an untouched shell
  • The engine bay is virtually to show standard whilst the interior is almost completely unmarked
  • The car has never been modified from new and remains completely standard
  • Recent full service (including cam-belt and tensioner), and a brake and suspension overhaul, plus the fitment of a replica original exhaust
  • With early supplying dealer Ford service history and many previous MOT certificates to warrant the mileage of just 29,000 miles
Based on the success of the previous model, the S2 Escort RS Turbo (produced between 1986-1990) was more suited to the road, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a 'homologation special'. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft produced at 2750 rpm, giving it ample performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds.
The car presented here is a 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 (‘90 spec) first registered on the 09/11/1989 and supplied new by Lindsay cars Ltd., an RS dealer in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. It's covered a mere 29,000 miles with early supplying dealer Ford service history and many previous MOT certificates to verify the mileage.
It is an immaculate example in very original un-restored condition, complete with all original panels, perfect panels gaps and is ‘straight as a dye’ down the sides. Close inspection shows it has never had a welding torch near it and the shell/underside are in simply lovely untouched condition. The car has never been modified from new and remains completely standard. The interior is virtually unmarked, whilst the alloy wheels have never been refurbished and are still wearing their four original Goodyear NCT50 tyres. The spare alloy and original tyre are unused, whilst the luggage compartment looks like brand new. The original Ford exhaust has just been replaced due to age, with a bespoke replica of the original fitted, and the brakes have just been overhauled. The engine bay has recently received a deep clean and is virtually show standard, still retaining the original grey Ford HT leads! The car has had a recent full service, including cambelt and tensioner.
It was imported by the current owner in 2017 from Southern Ireland with the registration 89LK4607, whilst the previous Northern Ireland registration was HDZ 2288. The car is now fully UK registered with an appropriate registration number allocated.
The current owner is an avid Ford collector and the car is only being sold due to him buying another rare Ford. This car is ready to show or to be driven on high days and holidays. One of the best available and a must for the Ford collector.
(the first image listed is not of the actual car offered for sale and is a library image used with thanks)
