2018 Dowsetts Comet - SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS NEC Classic Motor Show Sale NEC Birmingham Saturday 13th November - Sunday 14th November 2021

OUR FEATURED AUCTION

SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS
NEC Classic Motor Show Sale
NEC Birmingham
Saturday 13th November - Sunday 14th November 2021

2018 Dowsetts Comet
Lot No: 339
Registration No: MY51 ADC
Chassis No: DCC2017GTLS362002
Body Colour: Crayon Grey
Guide Price: £70,000-£80,000

A special opportunity to acquire this remarkable one-off designed by Ant Anstead and his team at Dowsetts Classic Cars.

  1. Dowsetts Classic Car Company is the new trading name of the company formerly known as Evanta whose superbly built creations we have been privileged to offer in the past
  2. The Comet is built around a steel spaceframe chassis which is clothed in GRP reinforced with Kevlar to create a shell that is strong yet light
  3. Its unique looks echo the classic lines of sports racers from the fifties and early sixties without becoming a pastiche of any one model
  4. They are entirely bespoke enabling potential owners to create exactly what they want
  5. Comet 02, on offer from its first owner, is powered by a General Motors LS3 V8, coupled to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential
  6. It's finished in Porsche Crayon Grey, not an obvious choice for an evocative 6-litre fifties-style sports car but in execution, truly successful
  7. It sits on a set of alloy wheels that, like everything else about this remarkable car, are Dowsetts-designed and unique in the proper sense of the word
  8. Clad in red quilted leather, the car's interior reflects this same design philosophy and every nook and cranny appears to have been thought about and created to be special, and it is. Full harnesses, white-faced dials, a Moto-Lita wheel, turned aluminium stubby short-throw gear lever, satin-finished stainless details and embossed leather. Really impressive
  9. Whilst Ant was naturally focussed on developing the car's dynamics, handling and road-holding etc., our vendor planned on using the car regularly so spec'd it with air-conditioning, Sat-Nav, a radio and a reversing camera
  10. Having covered only 2,500 miles, a recent back injury means that our vendor sadly must now part with '02
  11. It's very sensibly guided and is now available at around half its build cost

Here at Silverstone Auctions, we are pleased to have been able to help Ant Anstead and his passionate team at Evanta bring some of their fabulous fifties and sixties Aston Martin re-creations to the market. Evanta has recently morphed into the Dowsetts Classic Car Company and now stands proudly on its own design ethos building unique sports and GT cars, whilst still capturing the essence of the 1950s and ‘60s.

Their current project is the Comet which, like other Dowsett models, is built around a bespoke steel spaceframe chassis. This is then clothed in GRP reinforced with Kevlar to create a shell which is strong yet light and, importantly, is suitable for limited production runs where tooling might otherwise be prohibitive. That said, it’s not a simple process, taking over 50 different mould tools to make the panels for a single Comet.

The car’s shape is unique, in the proper sense of the word, but most viewers familiar with classic cars will identify references and styling cues that could well have come from legendary sports cars of the period, however, that was not intentional. Dowsetts’ Darren Collins comments “There are bound to be certain similarities. If you’re taking inspiration from a particular era, there are only so many ways in which it can be done. We’ve created something new, but there are clear nods to the era it evokes.”

The second production car, Comet 02, on offer here from its first owner, is powered by a General Motors LS3 V8, coupled to a Tremec 5-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential. It's finished in Porsche Crayon Grey, not an obvious choice for an evocative 6-litre fifties-style sports car but in execution, truly successful and it sits on a set of alloy wheels that, like everything else about this remarkable car, are Dowsetts-designed.

These cars are totally bespoke and whilst one owner may prefer a hard-edged Mille Miglia-style sports racer with no creature comforts, the buyer of ‘02’ planned on using the car regularly so spec'd it with air-conditioning, Sat-Nav, a radio and a reversing-camera. He was only able to enjoy some 2,500 miles in 02 before a recent back injury makes driving it really difficult. He has asked us to include a few words.

“As I explained I got involved with Ant Anstead over four years ago and on visiting his workshop spotted the Barchetta (open top early version of the Comet) and fell in love with it. Ant had by then started work on the Comet and I agreed to buy number two – the first having already been purchased off plan by another client and is now in America with Ant who is trying to fit an electric motor in it so mine is still the only road going Comet in the world!

The car is basically the dream car of Ant, mixing an Aston Martin front with a Ferrari back and some Lotus in the middle. Constructed much like the original AC Cobras squeezing a huge 6.2-litre Chevy engine into a bespoke, hand-built lightweight body. I spent many happy hours up at the workshop watching the car come together and worked with Ant and his team to specify some of the “luxury” additions not previously planned for the car (air conditioning, radio, sat.nav. and reverse camera) Ant looking to focus more on the performance and the track cred aspects of the car which I am pleased to say he achieved and then some! I have some personal photos of the build process for anyone interested and Dowsetts can provide more.

I took delivery of the car after it had finished full road testing back in December 2018 but shortly after I injured my back requiring surgery. My back is now okay but I find the Comet too low and with a fixed seat I just cannot get comfortable and so have come to the difficult and sad decision to sell the car and let someone else enjoy it.”

The Comet will be available for viewing prior to our NEC sale and we strongly urge interested parties to come and have a close look at this remarkable motor car.

1989 MG MONTEGO EFi - HISTORICS AUCTIONS Saturday 25th September 2021 Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot Berkshire SL5 7JX

OUR FEATURED AUCTION
HISTORICS AUCTIONS
Saturday 25th September 2021
Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot
Berkshire SL5 7JX

1989 MG MONTEGO EFi
Registration No: F914 GAK
Chassis No: SAXXEYLU7BM500553
Engine No: 20HE130106450
No Reserve

Very low mileage
Timewarp condition
Fully stamped service history booklet

Produced by British Leyland and latterly the Rover Group between 1984 and 1995, the Montego started life as a four-door hatchback. The high-performance MG version was offered using a 2.0-litre engine and used the solid-state instrument cluster, trip computer, and synthesised voice for the information and warning systems. Essentially a Maestro with a boot, a total of 34,476 2.0i cars were produced with a further 7,276 Turbo’s, survivors now being very scarce.

This rare MG Montego EFi has the 1994cc fuel injected straight-four engine and manual five-speed gearbox. Finished in complementary white with grey cloth interior, the EFi has only covered an incredibly low 31,402 miles from new. First registered in May 1989, the condition of the car is remarkable and must be seen to be believed. Not only is the condition of the car incredibly good and the mileage very low, the car also boasts being supplied with all of its original booklets and guides, as well as servicing invoices from its life. The vendor describes the car as outstanding and a pleasure to drive with everything working as you would hope.

Supplied with a UK V5C registration document, all of its booklets, (including its fully stamped service booklet), old invoices and a spare key. Perhaps not your obvious classic, but an important part of British automotive history and in a condition second to none, this is a rare opportunity to own a time warp condition example.

1931 AUSTIN 7 RM SPECIAL - HISTORICS AUCTIONS Saturday 25th September 2021 Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot Berkshire SL5 7JX

OUR FEATURED AUCTION
HISTORICS AUCTIONS
Saturday 25th September 2021
Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot
Berkshire SL5 7JX

1931 AUSTIN 7 RM SPECIAL
Registration No: OG 8905
Chassis No: 132551
Chassis No: 132976
No Reserve

Because of Herbert Austin’s approach to construction, there is no such thing as a standard Austin 7 as, from 1923, they were built in large numbers and in many different body styles. It is not surprising that they were often also raced at both circuit and trials. From that day to this, they are still widely enjoyed both as standard and in modified form, as this charming example represents.

Originally a standard RM, this Austin was then stripped and the roof lowered by 2”. Whilst it was in bare metal, it was primed and repainted in its current Lily Pad green with black wings. Things begin to get interesting, however, when you open the bonnet. Pigsty Racing, Austin 7 specialists, have uprated the engine to ‘trials’ spec, with a forged Phoenix crankshaft, new crack-tested conrods and forged pistons. A modified oil system and gas flowed ports are fitted with specialist Pigsty valve springs, new guides and a cylinder head with a Pigsty trials cam-profile. The cylinder head is a modified Superloy unit with modified combustion chambers to increase flow and compression ratio. Power is then fed through a lightened and balanced flywheel and clutch assembly. New wheels by Tudor and tyres by Excelsior complete the package just in time for the Austin 7 centenary celebrations in July next year...

2020 FORD MUSTANG 55 EDITION CS800 - HISTORICS AUCTIONS Saturday 25th September 2021 Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot Berkshire SL5 7JX

OUR FEATURED AUCTION
HISTORICS AUCTIONS
Saturday 25th September 2021
Ascot Racecourse, High Street, Ascot
Berkshire SL5 7JX

2020 FORD MUSTANG 55 EDITION CS800
Registration No: FL70 FOC
Chassis No: 1FA6P8NF0L5116894
Engine No: 5116894
Guide Price: £75,000-£95,000

Delivery and development miles only
Huge specification with £39,000 of upgrades
850bhp, 0-60 in under three seconds
Full Ford and Clive Sutton warranties

The sixth-generation Mustang was unveiled on 5th December 2013, in Michigan, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Shanghai and Sydney with the internal project code name S-550. With three engine options, a newly developed 2.3 litre EcoBoost 310bhp four-cylinder, a 3.7 litre 300bhp V6 or 5.0 litre Coyote 435hp V8, with either a Getrag six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

A new independent rear suspension (IRS) system was developed specifically for the new model. It also became the first version factory designed as a right hand drive export model to be sold overseas through Ford new car dealerships in right hand drive markets. The 2018 Mustang engine line up was revised with the 5.0 litre V8 receiving a power increase to 460hp and 420 lb ft of torque. The automatic transmission in both engines is now a ten speed Ford 10R80. The 2020 model year saw the re-introduction of the GT500. The 2020 GT500 included a hand-built 5.2 litre ‘Predator’ aluminium-alloy V8 engine with a 2.65 litre roots-type supercharger. The Shelby GT500 produces 760hp and 625 lb ft of torque but the GT350 was discontinued at the end of the 2020 model year.

With little more than delivery mileage, this ‘as new’ 55 edition example is presented in Velocity Blue and was first registered to our vendor on 13th October 2020; this however, was just the start of the ownership story and certainly not the end. Whilst purchasing the car from the dealership our vendor asked about further upgrades that might be available, bearing in mind the car was already specified with front and rear witness cameras, a 55 Edition rear spoiler, MagneRide adaptive suspension and full Ebony leather. The dealership pointed him in the direction of arguably the country’s leading specialist, Clive Sutton, in London who was duly commissioned and set upon the conversion from 55 edition specification to full CS800 specification, details of which can be found below. A car that cost £49,000 from the Ford dealership was suddenly treated to nearly £40,000 of Ford recognised upgrades. With the Ford warranty still valid it has been transformed from a sports car to a car that could challenge a super or even a hyper car. Boasting a guaranteed 830bhp but achieving 850bhp on a dyno test, it is believed even that could be surpassed after running in the engine together with a claimed under three seconds 0-62 and a top speed of over 200 mph. Clive Sutton’s performance packages are considered the very best and the CS800 is the top package available. Offered with a warranty from both Ford (for the standard car items) and from Clive Sutton for the CS800 Package this is as good as buying a brand new bespoke CS800 without the wait.

Having waited a good eight months during lockdown, our vendor was full of excitement for the car, visiting the factory and showroom at numerous stages. Clive Suttons also used this very car for a PR photoshoot and video. Further PR surrounding the CS800 can be found here;
