1995 MITSUBISHI 3000 GT SPYDER

ESTIMATE €30,000- €35,000

The Mitsubishi 3000 GT was produced from 1992 to 1999, at a time where the rise of multiple Japanese supercars was very apparent. From the rotary-powered Mazda RX-7 to the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R, there was no shortage of technologically advanced coupes with supercar beating capabilities. A combination of powerful turbocharged engines and previously unseen technological improvements made these vehicles appealing to a wide audience, at the fraction of the cost of a traditional supercar. The Mitsubishi 3000 GT was one of a handful of production vehicles that was instrumental in influencing the improved mechanisation of cars in the years that followed. For instance, features such as active aerodynamics and an all-wheel-drive system came as standard in the 3000 GT

Despite the complex hardware causing the 3000 GT to weigh in at over 1700 kg, acceleration from 0-60 mph was claimed to take just 5.5 seconds. In addition to this, the vehicle offered great long-distance touring capabilities and boasted rear high-speed stability and grip, partly as a result of a wide rear spoiler. Owners of these cars are said to appreciate the impressive straight-line performance and lavish interior.
The example offered today is the rarest variant- the 3000 GT Spyder- and there are very few known examples in Europe in particular. This is because the company named ASC (American Sunroof Corporation) carried out the conversions on regular coupes by using an automatic folding roof, similarly to Mercedes for the SLK a few years later. The vendor describes the vehicle as being very good mechanically, with a few cosmetic blemishes on the folding roof. As both a Japanese sports icon and a usable weekend toy, this represents an opportunity to buy a cult convertible which is ready to drive immediately.

1989 MASERATI BI-TURBO SPYDER - COYS AUCTIONS Saturday 3rd August 2019 Schloss Dyck, 41363 Jüchen, Germany

FEATURED AUCTION

COYS AUCTIONS
Saturday 3rd August 2019
Schloss Dyck, 41363 Jüchen, Germany

1989 MASERATI BI-TURBO SPYDER
The Bi-Turbo was initially a strong seller and brought Italian prestige to a wide audience and competed (unsuccessfully) in the British Touring Car Championship in the late 1980s, the European Touring Car Championship and the 1987 World Touring Car Championship. The Spyder version was introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1984 and was designed and built by the world-class designers, Zagato. Overall 3,076 were built over a ten year period, setting a production record for Maserati Spyders.
Attractively finished in black with a light grey leather and Alcantara interior, this later 1989 example still wears its original first paint, and is offered with a comprehensive history file and the associated service records. With just 60,000 kilometres from new, the Spider offers true supercar performance and sharp 80s looks – a fabulous option for Italian sportscar fans.

1978 LANCIA BETA SPYDER 2.0 - BARONS AUCTIONEERS Autumn Sale - 20th Anniversary Saturday 27th October 2018 Sandown Park Racecourse, Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ

FEATURED AUCTION
BARONS AUCTIONEERS
Autumn Sale - 20th Anniversary
Saturday 27th October 2018
Sandown Park Racecourse, Portsmouth Rd, Esher KT10 9AJ

1978 LANCIA BETA SPYDER 2.0
Registration No: XLM 983S
Chassis # 828BS1002736

Guide Price: £4,000 to £6,000

In 1975 Lancia launched a two-door convertible designed by Pininfarina called the Spyder with 2+2 seating. In brochures Lancia spelt the name with a "y" rather than an "i" possibly to differentiate the car from the Alfa Romeo Spider. The Spyder used the Beta Coupé's shorter wheelbase and featured a targa top roof panel, a roll-over bar, and folding rear roof. It was initially powered by either the 1600 or 1800 twin-cam engine, later being replaced by the new 1.6 and 2.0. It never received the IE or VX engines. Although the Spyder was designed by Pininfarina it was actually built by Zagarto. The construction process was complex, with coupé bodies-in-white being delivered to Zagato for the roofless conversion, then back to Lancia for rust-proofing, then back to Zagato for paint, interior and trim, and then back to Lancia for a third time for engine installation and final assembly. There were 9,390 Spyders built.

The vendor states that this example was totally rebuilt in the early 90s’ and totally re sprayed last year. He has owned the car for over 6 years now, and it has been well looked after, with his mechanic coming to maintain his collection every other week

The suspension and engine are said to be very sporty, and it is great fun to drive. As all Lancias, it needs to be pushed and responds, it is a real driver’s car. The car is said to be surprisingly fast (2 litres) and practical with room for 4 and a big  boot. It is wonderful with the top down, which all works perfectly. The vendor is sad to see the car go, but a project car demands more attention and garage space ran out. These cars are now very rare in this condition, so this must be one of the few good ones left.

Note: This description is provided by the vendor and unless otherwise stated is 'Not Verified' by Barons or any person employed by Barons. Prospective purchasers are advised to satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of any statements made, whether they be statements of fact or opinion.

1955 PORSCHE CHAMONIX 550 SPYDER

Engine Number: Not Specified
Number of cylinders: 4
CC: 1915cc
Year of Manufacture: 1955

(+buyer's premium of 15% including VAT @ 20%)

Porsche's first attempt at building a race car was the 550 Spyder. It was powered by their Carrera 1500cc quad-cam flat-four engine and it soon gained a reputation as a ''Giant Killer'' with just a modest 115bhp. In 1956, an evolution of the Spyder won the Targa Floria and the 550 was to record numerous successes worldwide over the next few years. During September 1955 one of the first ninety 550 Spyders (Vin 550-0055) would, sadly, be immortalised in history when James Dean, actor and budding racing driver, collided with Donald Turnupseed on his way to the Salinas Road Race. The trans-axle was removed from the wreck of the Spyder and is still owned in the USA, and the battered bodywork of ''Little Bastard'' toured the States as a macabre reminder to speeding motorists. Between venues, it went missing and has not been heard of since, however, somebody knows where it is.
Offered here is Chamonix 550 Spyder built in 2009 by Special Editions Inc. (USA) from the base car manufactured in Sao Paulo in Brazil. It was initially supplied to F1 Assistant Race Director, Herbie Blash who’s usually seen in the driver's weighing room after a Grand Prix. Special Editions Inc. has been responsible for producing other 550 Spyders for the likes of Jay Leno and designer Gordon Murray leaving no doubt about the quality and desirability of these well-crafted cars.

The overall fit and finish of the bodywork is of an exceptionally high standard and the general condition is commensurate with only having covered 3,500 miles. The rear wings have been painstakingly detailed with red painted flashes with gold edging as a ‘nod’ to period race liveries and are painted on. The look continues with a GT mirror, Porsche badging, mesh headlight covers and leather engine-cover straps. The red leather interior features a 14’’ Nardi wood rim wheel, aluminium control stalks, and a push-button starter. The weather equipment consists of full/half tonneau and side screens. The engine is 1915cc which gives vivid performance combined with the legendary nimble handling offered by the tubular chassis and coil-over suspension. It's registered as a 1955 Chamonix so its exempt from Road Fund Tax.
With original 550 Spyders’ at £5,000,000, this is a very good second best and in this condition, and at this guide, represents remarkable value.
