1959 MERCEDES BENZ 190 SL
Rare RHD Drive Example
Chassis No: 121042209501188
Estimate: £100,000 - £120,000

Stylistically evocative of the mighty 300SL, but with a slightly less complex drive train, the 190SL remains among the most desirable roadsters of its era. The prototype was first shown at the 1954 New York Auto Show, with the 190SL produced between May 1955 and February 1963. The 190SL was sold alongside the 300SL, similar not just in terms of styling, engineering and detailing, but also sharing fully independent suspension, double-wishbone suspension at the front and swing axles at the rear.
The 190 SL was powered by a new, slightly oversquare 1.9 litre straight-four SOHC engine that developed 120bhp with twin-choke dual Solex carburettors, the four-cylinder engine block was based on the six-cylinder engine of the 300 SL. Teamed with a four-speed manual gearbox, sleek aerodynamics and comparatively lightweight allowed for a top speed of 115mph and a respectable 0-60mph time of 13 seconds.
Delivered new on the 27th of February 1959 to a Mercedes-Benz dealership in London, this rare right-hand drive 190SL is one of an approximate 500 UK examples made from an overall production run of 25,881.
Finished in an eye-catching period metallic green with contrasting green interior, this wonderful example has recently enjoyed a comprehensive restoration to a high standard, with works by notable specialists such as Steve Redfern, Redcastle and Robert Thredder engineering. Some of the work undertaken includes a suspension and brake overhaul, engine rebuild, all-new wiring loom, brightwork re-chroming, refinishing of the paint, complete retrim including hood & hood bag, new radiator, petrol tank and new exhaust system. In current ownership, the Mercedes has enjoyed further improvements to the tune of several thousand pounds.
Representing the style of true Mercedes-Benz sports cars in the 1950s and offering as much pleasure to drive today as when it was when manufactured in 1959, this is a wonderful example of an enduring classic.

1978 FORD ESCORT Mk2 - COYS AUCTIONS London Classic Car Show Sale Saturday 22nd February 2010 National Hall London Olympia Hammersmith Road, Hammersmith London W14 8UX

1978 FORD ESCORT Mk2
Chassis No: SCAFUA63083PPH5

In the mid-1970s, Ford set about sharpening its act. Not in a marketing sense – because it had been impeccable since at least the end of the 1960’s – but visually. Just as the Capri received its straight-edged new styling, so did the Escort, to become the Mk II.
Codenamed Brenda during development, the 1975 Escort Mk II gained a number of new variations and trim options as well as new styling. Although little more than a facelift of the old Coke bottle car, the ‘75 Escort was considered new in the eyes of most of its customers and ended up sitting atop its sector in the UK sales charts during its production run. It did well in Europe, too, selling almost a million in five years.

Underneath the boxy body, everything was much the same as the Mk I model, but the addition of the 1,599cc ‘Kent’ engine at the top of the range created the appeal six-pack dial Escort 1.6 Ghia. The existing 1,098cc and 1,298cc engines continued as they were.
This highly original “time-warp” example has been in the custodianship of just one owner from new, who has cared for and maintained the car since first buying it in 1978. In the intervening years the Escort has been garaged and used regularly, clocking up 79,000 miles in its 42 years.

The Escort is offered with all UK taxes paid, and included are foreign title documents and a newspaper article featuring the owner with the car. Presented in excellent original order in all respects, this lovely straight unmodified example is a real treat to see, and will be a charming car to own for its lucky owner.

1969 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1300
Estimate 15,000 - 17,00 Euros

Although designed in the 1930s, due to World War II, civilian Beetles only began to be produced in significant numbers by the end of the 1940s. The car was then internally designated the Volkswagen Type 1, and marketed simply as the Volkswagen. Later models were designated Volkswagen 1200, 1300, 1500, 1302, or 1303, the former three indicating engine displacement, the latter two derived from the model number. The car became widely known in its home country as the Käfer (German for “beetle”, cognate with English chafer) and was later marketed under that name in Germany, and as the Volkswagen in other countries. For example, in France, it was known as the Coccinelle (French for ladybug).
First registered in 1969, the superb example on offer here is described by the vendor as being in like-new condition and has covered a mere 86,043 km. It is also fitted with a very rare sunroof. Finished in cream with a black interior, the car comes complete with an extensive history file detailing maintenance work carried out over the years.
