1959 JAGUAR Mk IX SALOON
Chassis No: P771603BW
Engine No: NC3159-8
Estimate: £19,000 - £24,000

The Jaguar Mk. IX was produced between 1959 and 1961 and replaced the previous Mk. VIII. Standard transmission was a four-speed manual system; options included overdrive, but most cars were built with a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic gearbox. Internally, an enlarged-bore 3.8 litre, 220bhp DOHC straight-six replaced the previous 3.4 litre unit with two SU carburettors were fitted. Four-wheel servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating ball power steering was now standard equipment. The torsion bar independent front suspension and leaf-sprung rear live axle were retained from the Mk. VIII. The body was generally similar to its predecessor, but the sunshine roof became a standard fitting for the UK market. The interior was in the same luxurious mode with extensive use of leather, walnut wood trim and deep pile carpet. The Mk. IX's power and good brakes for a vehicle of that era, together with its undoubtedly impressive aesthetic appearance, makes it quite a common choice for the classic car market.

This early Jaguar Mk. IX Saloon has had three owners from new, the current owner purchased it in 2002. The first owner, Miss N B Gray, was a senior Police officer base in Birmingham who had a chauffeur drive her around. Supplied in June 1959 it has the Borg-Warner automatic gearbox fitted which allowed a front bench seat to be fitted. This matching numbers car was professionally restored in 1997 to the original specification of Indigo Blue over light blue with light blue leather interior and comes with the correct, complete toolkits fitted in both front doors. It is supplied with a V5C registration document, a heritage certificate, the original ‘first series’ handbook and two large files the first containing old registration documents, MoT’s and invoices. The second, a detailed history by the current owner while in his ownership with invoices and notes of works carried out. This Mk. IX emphasises Sir Williams Lyon’s theme of ‘Grace, Space and Pace’ with its flowing lines and extensive amount of chrome.

1925 DONNET-ZEDEL G2 SALOON - Bonhams Auctions The Beaulieu Sale Beaulieu National Motor Museum 4th - 5th September 2021

OUR FEATURED AUCTION

Bonhams Auctions
The Beaulieu Sale
Beaulieu National Motor Museum
4th - 5th September 2021

1925 DONNET-ZEDEL G2 SALOON
Registration Number: BF 7075
Chassis No: 18463-59108
Engine No: 18669
MOT & Tax Exempt

Founded in 1919 and all but forgotten now, Donnet-Zedel had grown to become France's fourth-largest motor manufacturer by 1927. Formerly engaged in the manufacture of flying boats, Jérôme Donnet purchased Automobiles Zedel of Pontarlier to create the Donnet-Zedel marque, whose first offering was the CI-6, a pre-war Zedel design. In 1925 the firm introduced the highly successful Type G, a 1,098cc four-cylinder light car, which was built in considerable numbers in the former Donnet aircraft factory at Gennevilliers, Seine. With the sale of Zedel's old factory at Pontarlier in 1928, the Donnet-Zedel name was dropped.

Hit by the Depression-like so many of its contemporaries, Donnet continued to build cars, albeit in declining numbers, until the firm ceased production in December 1934. Its Nanterre factory was then sold to Henri-Théodore Pigozzi, who commenced production of built-under-licence FIATs under the SIMCA name.

Offered here is a charming French saloon car that has benefited from a 'ground upwards' restoration carried out in the late 1980s/early 1990s. More recent works have included fitting new tyres; replacing the clutch; fitting new upgraded brake shoes, and overhauling the steering box. Everything works and the car comes with a history file containing invoices for recent works totalling £6,000. The original dynamo and carburettor are included in the sale together with a bespoke distributor conversion kit that was specially made for the car.

Please note the V5C records the chassis number as 59108 and not 18463 as on the chassis plate.

1951 AC 2-LITRE SALOON - BONHAMS AUCTIONS Collector's Cars & Automobilia Sale RAF Museum Hendon Thursday 21st November 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

BONHAMS AUCTIONS
Collector's Cars & Automobilia Sale
RAF Museum Hendon
Thursday 21st November 2019

1951 AC 2-LITRE SALOON
Registration no. UXG 747
Chassis no. EL1562
  • Introduced in 1947, the AC 2-Litre was a spacious and well-equipped touring car endowed with respectable (80mph) performance courtesy of the firm's long-established and ruggedly built overhead-cam six. Breathing through triple SU carburettors, the 1,991cc engine produced 76bhp and was coupled to a four-speed Moss gearbox. A variety of body styles - some coachbuilt - were available on the 2-Litre chassis, including a four-door model from late 1952. Production continued, to special order only, until 1958, by which time approximately 1,200 had been produced.

Previously registered 'LXL 261', this AC 2-Litre saloon was first registered on 2nd January 1951 to a Mr Poutney of the Meyer Liquid Company, London W1. The current vendor purchased the car at a regional auction in May 2006 when it was described as "an older restoration... stored virtually unused for a year and could do with a tune up. Said to be in good and tidy order generally". Contained within a large box file, accompanying documentation includes a (copy) buff logbook listing previous keepers in the 1970s; sundry 1980s bills from AC Cars; a quantity of expired MoTs; a V5C Registration Certificate; and MoT to July 2020. The car also comes with a (copy) AC owner's handbook and a copy of Leo Archibald's book, AC Two-Litre Saloons & Buckland Sports Cars. The vendor advises us that the engine would benefit from attention (points, etc) to improve running.

1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 Saloon - .BONHAMS AUCTIONS The Beaulieu SaleCollectors' Motor Cars & Motorcycles and Automobilia Saturday 7th September 2019 Beaulieu, National Motor Museum

FEATURED AUCTION

Saturday 7th September 2019
Beaulieu, National Motor Museum

1966 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 Saloon
Registration no. JVT 721D
Chassis no. 1161016262

Footnotes

  • One of the 20th Century-s truly great automobiles, the Volkswagen 'Beetle' lived down its origin as Hitler's 'people's car', going on to become an all-time best-seller and cult classic. The Beetle was continuously up-dated from the time post-war production commenced, under British military supervision, in 1945, acquiring subtly altered coachwork, improved running gear and larger engines. Development proceeded slowly in the immediately post-war years. There were numerous detail improvements but the model range - standard and 'export' saloons plus the Karmann-built cabriolet - remained largely unchanged from 1949 to 1965. The first major change to the original design occurred in 1953 when a larger, 1,192cc engine was introduced on the 1200 model. Export models were built to a higher specification, incorporating hydraulic brakes and synchromesh gears, but even as late as 1962 the standard saloon was being built with cable brakes and a non-synchromesh gearbox! Greater window area and revised, ball-jointed front suspension had been among the most significant developments for 1965, while the following year the standard, 34bhp 1200 model was joined by the new 1300 equipped with a more powerful 50bhp engine.
Formerly kept on showroom display, this low mileage (the odometer is currently reading circa 27,000 miles) Beetle 1300 is described by the vendor as in good condition throughout. The car is offered with insurance documents, old V5 registration documents, sundry bills, and a number of expired tax discs and MoTs.
