1925 DONNET-ZEDEL G2 SALOON - Bonhams Auctions The Beaulieu Sale Beaulieu National Motor Museum 4th - 5th September 2021

It's been a difficult time for everyone over the last 18 months but the future looks better and we all hope normality is just around the corner.

OUR FEATURED AUCTION

Bonhams Auctions
The Beaulieu Sale
Beaulieu National Motor Museum
4th - 5th September 2021

1925 DONNET-ZEDEL G2 SALOON
Registration Number: BF 7075
Chassis No: 18463-59108
Engine No: 18669
MOT & Tax Exempt

Founded in 1919 and all but forgotten now, Donnet-Zedel had grown to become France's fourth-largest motor manufacturer by 1927. Formerly engaged in the manufacture of flying boats, Jérôme Donnet purchased Automobiles Zedel of Pontarlier to create the Donnet-Zedel marque, whose first offering was the CI-6, a pre-war Zedel design. In 1925 the firm introduced the highly successful Type G, a 1,098cc four-cylinder light car, which was built in considerable numbers in the former Donnet aircraft factory at Gennevilliers, Seine. With the sale of Zedel's old factory at Pontarlier in 1928, the Donnet-Zedel name was dropped.

Hit by the Depression-like so many of its contemporaries, Donnet continued to build cars, albeit in declining numbers, until the firm ceased production in December 1934. Its Nanterre factory was then sold to Henri-Théodore Pigozzi, who commenced production of built-under-licence FIATs under the SIMCA name.

Offered here is a charming French saloon car that has benefited from a 'ground upwards' restoration carried out in the late 1980s/early 1990s. More recent works have included fitting new tyres; replacing the clutch; fitting new upgraded brake shoes, and overhauling the steering box. Everything works and the car comes with a history file containing invoices for recent works totalling £6,000. The original dynamo and carburettor are included in the sale together with a bespoke distributor conversion kit that was specially made for the car.

Please note the V5C records the chassis number as 59108 and not 18463 as on the chassis plate.

1925 FORD MODEL T FIRE TRUCK - HISTORICS AUCTIONEERS Brooklands Motor Museum Weybridge, Surrey Saturday 13th July 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

HISTORICS AUCTIONEERS
Brooklands Motor Museum
Weybridge, Surrey
Saturday 13th July 2019

1925 FORD MODEL T FIRE TRUCK

  • In New York Fire Department livery
  • Complete with hoses and ladders
  • Good all round condition
From 1909 to 1927, the Ford Motor Company built more than 15 million Model T cars. Without a doubt, Henry Ford transformed the economic and social fabric of the 20th century. The most popular body styles were two and five-seater open touring cars; however, a very wide variety of bodies were available over the years including closed cars, vans and one tonne truck versions. Special bodies and many other parts were available from accessory suppliers so it was possible to convert your Model T car to anything from a 25 seater Charabanc or taxi to a racing car or tractor. Driving a Model T is easy; if you've never driven a conventional car. The accelerator is controlled by hand using a lever under the steering wheel. Forward gears are selected using the left of the three pedals, reverse by using the centre pedal and braking is achieved using the right pedal. Normal cruising speed is 35-40mph and fuel consumption is 20-25mpg.
This 1925 Ford is in the guise of a New York fire truck and is in good condition. We are advised by the vendor that she runs and drives; this open cab Model T is certainly an eyeful. To the rear of the unit is the hose, searchlight and water tank; running along the sides are the ladders. The seat in the cab area is quilted and in good condition. Sitting proudly on artillery wheels, this handsome vehicle is offered for sale without reserve.

BRIGHTWELLS AUCTIONS
Wednesday 26th September 2018
Easters Court, Leominster, Herefordshire,HR6 0DE

1925 DODGE MODEL 4 ROADSTER SPECIAL
Registration No:BF4970
Chassis No: 7A852070700451000
Engine No: A536620

The Dodge Brothers made their money initially by producing engines for, and investing in, Henry Ford’s fledgling Ford Motor Company. They had a reputation for sound engineering and their own cars were strong, simple, and well made. This is one of them.
The car started life as a saloon in 1925 and found its way to New Zealand where it was eventually turned into the open-topped two-seat Speedster you see before you. Andrew Bremner imported the car in 2008 and there is plenty of correspondence on file between Mr Bremner and the overseas owner, including some details of the car’s condition and requirements.
Mr Bremner encountered various problems but eventually got the car running well, only to suffer a catastrophic engine failure involving con-rods and crankcase ventilation. Another engine was sourced, problems overcome and the whole plot was back in action in no time. Sounds simple when you say it quickly, but the accompanying correspondence and invoices are a little more sobering...
A regular at the Kop Hill Climb, the Dodge had its last MOT in 2013 (minor advisories) since when it has become MOT exempt. It may need some fettling but nothing a handy mechanic cannot solve, and it can be seen running in the video link on our website. The prospective buyer is advised to examine the extensive history file (9lbs, by weight!) that comes with the car to make a little more sense of what they are buying.
This is heroic old car that may not be to everyone’s taste but will enable the new owner to take part in a wide range of historic events, including hill climbs, trials and sprints. Concours d’Èlegance are best avoided, though.

• Luxury brand
• New delivery in Paris
• First owner Mr Pierre Lorillard Ronalds
• Formerly owned by Mr Alain Balleret, founder of the club Hispano-Suiza of France
• Restored by Mr Balleret (end of the 1960s / early 1970s)

The chassis 11038 was shipped by the factory on November 27, 1924. Its first owner, Mr Pierre Lorillard Ronalds had asked for an elegant body style razor-edge coupe city by the body Kellner, one of the very chic Parisian coachbuilders. Mr Ronalds was from one of the oldest American families whose vast fortune came from New York's Lorillard tobaccos. His home at 11, rue de la Baume, is still one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. 11038 was his fourth Hispano-Suiza and he kept it until his death in February 1928 when she passed to another client Hispano-Suiza, Carmen de Romero of Paris.

We go directly to the summer of 1967 when photographer Ludo Pivron was refuelling his Delahaye 135MS at a gas station in the French countryside. He routinely asks the mechanic if he knows "old cars" in the area. He is then told a local scrap dealer in the hangars of which he is surprised to find this Hispano. In a letter in the record, Mr Pivron remembers that the hangar was well ventilated and that the Hispano had been well preserved, a complete survivor in a remarkable original state and apparently having arrived there by his own means.

The price of 3,000 Francs exceeded what could be afforded Mr Pivron and a few weeks later he learned that Hispano-Suiza was now in Paris where it was displayed on sale for 9,000 francs! This is where the car was bought by a friend of Mr Pivron, an industrialist who after years of careful restoration made this sumptuous H6B to its former glory.

The industrialist mentioned above was Alain Balleret who, in the 1930s, was head of the experimental department of Hispano-Suiza. In the 1970s, Alain Balleret founded the Hispano-Suiza club in France and, until his death on January 1, 1988, organized many Hispano-Suiza events, many in collaboration with the American club (see letter from the daughter of Mr Balleret on file).

The H6B was restored by a master coachbuilder near Saint-Etienne, Mr Saillant (now deceased) and was used for the wedding of the daughter of Mr Balleret in June 1971. Since then, she took part in many rallies including the Monte Carlo in 1973. In possession of Mr Balleret, 11038 was the common garage with the fabulous and unique Hispano-Suiza Xenia, now in an American collection.

Following the death of Mr Balleret, Hispano-Suiza body Kellner remained pampered in a shed family castle. Emerging in 2007, after being used for the last time at the Barcelona-Paris Rally of 2003, she was sent to Switzerland to a professional conservator. The carburettor was rebuilt by a French specialist, Umpaler, and the running gear was carefully checked, cleaned and tested. Hispano was then offered for sale Bonhams Olympia in December 2008 (Lot 682) where it was purchased by the seller.

According to the 2008 catalogue: "A recent test drive saw the car market at a brisk pace. Oil pressure was good, steering and brakes accurate and all mechanical and electrical systems were working properly. And to everyone's surprise, in a straight line, this 84-year-old lady was perfectly fit in modern traffic. The engine block has been carefully checked for corrosion ... and has received a certificate of good health. "

This typical French town coupe, repainted in its vintage cellulosic black, is sumptuously equipped with its original tilting Blériot headlamps, a formidable electric Cicca Tenor trunk and side lanterns mounted on the windshield. The front compartment upholstery is in black leather and beige fabric on the back with Cuban mahogany panels and original bone door handles. Other luxury features include electric interior lighting, downward driver separation, valuable storage space for the rear passengers and a driver's intercom.

Also noteworthy are the side-mounted spare wheel, the two-part opening windshield, a detachable toolbox, a polished aluminium instrument panel with Hispano-Suiza instrumentation, optional Ram telescopic front shock absorbers, and a safety deposit box. Removable back luggage filled with custom suitcases (with their original keys) for long trips.

Since its acquisition by the seller, 11038 has been regularly maintained and little used. Sold with the car, you'll find a fascinating historical file containing the old French registration card, UK V5 registration papers, maintenance sheets, various invoices, photographs and the correspondence mentioned above.

Offering the best of automotive fun, suitable for all climates in the open or closed, offering exceptional roominess in its sumptuous rear compartment for guests or to occupy the youngest passengers, this elegant Hispano-Suiza is the perfect car for the pleasure of long exceptional rallies reserved for the elite or for very chic elegance contests
