1983 Madison Boat Tail Tourer - Brightwells Classic Car & Motorcycle Auction Closing Thursday 5th August from 7pm

It's been a difficult time for everyone over the last 18 months but the future looks better and we all hope normality is just around the corner.

OUR FEATURED AUCTION

Brightwells

Classic Car & Motorcycle Auction

Closing Thursday 5th August from 7pm

Online Auction

1983 Madison Boat Tail Tourer
{Restoration Project}
Lot No: 14
Registration No: YNR 255Y
Chassis No: 1122052873
 Engine No: B0063342
Body Colour: N/S

The Madison Boat Tail tourers were designed by Neville Trickett and were inspired by the Auburn’s and Packard’s of the 1930s. They used the chassis, engine and mechanicals from VW Beetles and Ford Cortina’s and appear to have been produced between about 1978 and 1990 with GRP panels all round.

This example is a relatively early one, having been registered in 1982 and is the rear engine Beetle based variant. It has obviously not been used for a considerable time and there are no records of MOTs online or in paper format. Experian does not mention any previous keepers, so it is plausible that the deceased owner may have had it since new, using it very little and covering very few miles. The speedo only shows 930 miles, but bidders will need to satisfy themselves on whether that is genuine or not!

Sadly, solicitors dealing with the estate have not been able to find any paperwork relating to the car and we have chosen to photograph it in the same condition it was found in the garage, thick dust and cobwebs included – to show a true reflection of the condition and underuse. Underneath the dust and cobwebs, is a complete black GRP body, a 1,776cc engine with a big Webber carb and some exciting-looking, potentially rumbling side exhausts.

*Comprehensive history supports its 42,00 miles

*Recently re-painted
*A rare opportunity

Odometer Reading: 42102

This car was popular when new but not selling in as great a number as its 205 successor, Peugeot 104 survivors in the UK are seldom seen and this well-presented GL, five-door model is certainly a rare offering. It has a comprehensive history that backs up its 42,000 miles and the bodywork is very good, with a recent re-paint (excluding the roof). External trim and glass, as well as the wheels and tyres, are in good condition. The interior has been re-trimmed and the dashboard, door cards and carpets all present well.

 1983 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE III

CLASSIC CAR MAGAZINE COVER AND MAIN FEATURE CAR FEATURE CAR, AUTOITALIA MAGAZINE - MAINTAINED BY MCGRATH

The third generation Maserati Quattroporte created a new kind of supercar with four doors and four comfortable seats. The first version, launched in 1963, was a comfortable automobile capable of exceeding 200 km/h. The Series III, launched in 1978, met with wide success, with a career that lasted eleven years and 2,141 units sold during this period. Designed by Giugiaro and angular in style, the car featured a four camshaft V8, in its 4.9-litre version, developing 280bhp and mated to an automatic gearbox. It had a very luxurious interior, with pleated natural leather seats and rosewood trim on the dashboard and doors.
This superb example has been in the current ownership for 20 years and has benefitted from being regularly serviced by renowned marque specialists, Bill McGrath. The history file also contains MOT’s dating back to 1999 when he bought the car and this cherished Maserati has of course been kept garaged. No stranger to public attention, this Quattroporte has featured in several magazine articles at home and abroad showing just how exemplary it is. Described by the vendor to be in very good to excellent condition throughout, we suggest that any inspection would come to the same conclusion. A truly wonderful opportunity that is not to be missed.
Estimate: £15,000 – £20,000
€18,000 – €22,000
$20,000 – $25,000
