Derived from the Consul Classic saloon and announced in the autumn of 1961, the Consul Capri was the first European-built Ford to carry the 'Capri' name. Available for little more than two seasons, the American-style Classic was an interim model produced pending the Cortina's arrival. Mechanically the Classic followed the pattern established by the Anglia 105E, featuring McPherson strut independent front suspension, a live rear axle, and a 1,340cc version of the Anglia engine. The gearbox and clutch too were carried over from the smaller car; the Classic's front disc brakes, though, were a novelty among its medium-sized family saloon contemporaries.

Mechanically the Capri was identical to the Classic, as was its bodyshell from the waist down apart from minor changes to the doors. The coupé roof lowered the centre of gravity and improving the handling, while inside there were better seats and trim. In July 1962 the 1.3-litre Classic and Capri were superseded by 1,498cc variants that brought with them more power, greater flexibility, a higher top speed and an all-synchromesh gearbox. Production of all types ceased in 1964 and today these rare modern Fords enjoy an enthusiastic following.

The current vendor purchased this Capri at the Sharpe Collection sale in June 2005, since when it has been carefully stored but not used. With only 14,799 miles recorded, the car is extremely original (we believe the paint is the original finish). The car has recently been re-commissioned and is said to run well.

1973 Citroen Mehari
Registration No: N/A
Chassis No: 05CA1421
Colour: Orange Kirghiz

Produced for 20 years between 1968 and 1988, the Citroen Mehari is a fun, lightweight recreational vehicle that is popularly used in coastal environments. Originally available in two-wheel drive (and later four-wheel drive), the Mehari weighs just 535kg and is powered by a tiny 602cc flat-two petrol engine that is shared with the 2CV6, Dyane and Ami. A four-speed dog-leg gearbox adds to the fun nature of the vehicle and pairs well with the engine. The Mehari was mechanically very simple and it remained largely unchanged for most of its life. Minor changes included vinyl doors being fitted in 1970 (with an optional vinyl roof) and a slight stylistic update in 1978.

This 1973 Mehari is a fully restored example that is presented in a beautiful Kirghiz orange colour scheme. With a restoration carried out in 2013 by The 2CV Shop in Warminster, the paintwork, bodywork and interior all present well and are in very good condition. This model is also fitted with the optional vinyl roof which adds to its year-round usability, rear seats, a tow bar and a fitted dust cover. This is a fun and unique vehicle that's ideal for use as a summer run-around.

              1996 Fairway Driver Taxi
              Registration No: N868 DMM
              Chassis No: SCRF3B3MXTC085138
              Estimate: £8,000 - £10,000

              • Produced between 1958 and 1997, the Austin FX4 is a British icon and is instantly recognisable around the world as a London taxi. Originally sold as an Austin between 1958 and 1982, Carbodies (also known as The London Taxi Company) proceeded to take over production of the FX4 in 1982 until it was phased out. This late 1996 example is a Fairway model which was introduced in 1989 and featured a new 2,664cc Nissan diesel engine. This improved overall performance and reliability of the FX4, and it also had other additions such as full wheelchair accessibility. Maintained to the highest of standards, this example has covered a little over 100,000 miles (which is low for a London taxi) and was retired by its owner in 2012 (and subsequently put into dry storage). Recently recommissioned, the car has been fully serviced and has a new MOT until September 2022. There is no rust on the car and the interior is also in excellent condition with its seats, headlining and walnut dash all presenting well. It is believed there are only a small number left on UK roads, so the FX4 is becoming increasingly scarce. Overall, this is a very good original example that is worthy of use every day or as an investment.

                Vendor Score Total: 79/100
