Based at Chemin-Feuillat in Lyon, Rochet-Schneider was one of Les Grands Marques of the Edwardian period in France. The firm was so-called because it was initially run by the Rochets, father and son, together with Théophile Schneider, a member of the eponymous armaments manufacturing family. Originally, bicycle manufacturers, Société Anonyme des Établissements Rochet-Schneider built its first automobile in 1894, and in 1901 at the Paris Salon exhibited two cars of Panhard configuration. However, by this time the most advanced type of car was the German Mercedes, so for 1903, the Lyonnaise cars were redesigned along Mercedes lines. From the introduction of that year's 20/22hp model, Rochet-Schneider's reputation as the builder of strong, fast cars grew rapidly, fully justifying the firm's description of its products as 'Les voitures de qualité'.
Offered here is an example of the 18hp 9300 Series, a 3.7-litre, four-cylinder model first introduced in 1910. Its generously proportioned open-drive landaulet coachwork affords the occupants ample space, while there is additional occasional seating in the rear compartment. The current vendor purchased this stately French Edwardian at the Sharp Collection sale in June 2005, since when it has been carefully stored, the engine being run once several years ago. Re-commissioning, at the very least, will be required before returning the car to the road. Sold strictly as view

1949 CADILLAC SERIES 75 FLEETWOOD - COYS AUCTIONS TECHNO CLASSICA SALE Messe Essen, Messeplatz 1 45131 Essen Germany SATURDAY 13th APRIL 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

COYS AUCTIONS
TECHNO CLASSICA SALE
Messe Essen, Messeplatz 1
45131 Essen Germany
SATURDAY 13th APRIL 2019

1949 CADILLAC SERIES 75 FLEETWOOD

Estimate: €30000 - €40000

The tailfins which were to be the hallmark of Cadillac styling throughout the fifties were first seen on the 1948 models; the inspiration was of course the P38 Lightning which had helped win World War II.
The following year GM announced the first two door hard top the first such model to be known as the Coupe deVille, a name which survived for the next twenty years. A new power plant was also unveiled a smooth, potent V8 which dramatically improved performance along with power interestingly, fuel consumption.
The engine benefitted from design innovations and improvements with the result that the engine was a remarkable 200 lbs lighter, five inches shorter and four inches lower than the model it replaced.
The series 75 was Cadillac’s largest and most luxurious offering for the season. The big news was the new engine and a handsome re-revised dashboard, still impressive sixty years later. Top of the line for Cadillac was the Series 75 Imperial Limousine, designed to be the last word in luxury, with an eye watering list price for the time of $5,170, which inevitably resulted in sales of only 626 units for 1949.
Today’s delightful example is finished in Embassy Black, with a sumptuous interior upholstered in Taupe fabric, which features twin occasional seats and all the luxury gadgets expected by a Cadillac buyer.
American cars of this era remain as impressive as they were always intended to be, with the distinct advantage that these post-war cars are very drivable as well with the silky V8 well matched to the excellent Hydramatic automatic gearbox.
This is a very handsome and well preserved specimen of what was always a rare car and is now even more so. Its condition indicates careful and sparing use and the car will provide be an impressive ornament to any collection.

Wednesday 10th April 2019

2010 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GTC
SPEED SERIES 51
Registration No: DK10 FFA
Chassis No: SCBDJ23WXBC067123
MOT: February 2020

- Named after the year that Bentley established its own Styling Department, the Series 51 cars featured bespoke interiors/exteriors

- Originally serviced by Bentley's Press & Special Car Dept and later belonged to Emile Heskey

- 3 former keepers, 36,000 miles from new, among the rarest GTC variants, MOT'd till Feb 2020, carbon ceramic brake upgrade

Further info:

Built to celebrate the founding of Bentley's in-house Styling Department under John Polwhele Blatchley during 1951, the Series 51 versions of the Continental GT and GTC models featured bespoke exterior and interior treatments which often harked back to the marque's former Motor Show exhibits. They also often incorporated colour combinations and stylistic flourishes suggested by Bentley's own designers (rather than their customers). Interiors were typically trimmed in two-tone leather with a third colour being used as an accent. Needless to say, the Series 51 variants were prodigiously expensive when new and also decidedly rare.
