1990 FORD ESCORT RS TURBO S2
Registration No: H308 EGS
Chassis No: WF0BXXGCABLM47836

  • /The Series 2 Escort RS Turbo (1986 - 1990) was a much more civilised driving prospect
  • 1600cc, fuel-injected CVH engine now fitted with a water-cooled Garret T3 turbo
  • Revised engine management, improved gearbox, larger clutch and a limited-slip differential
  • Residing with our vendor since 2001 and mainly mothballed with limited usage
  • Fully recommissioned this year including cambelt, all fluids and a brake overhaul
  • A comprehensive history and the MOT is valid until 31/07/2020
Based on the success of the previous model, the S2 Escort RS Turbo (produced between 1986-1990) was more suited to the road, whereas the earlier car was a bit of a homologation special. Many new features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE-Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft produced at 2750 rpm, offering ample performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. Although on paper these figures were a tad down on Series 1, the new car was considerably easier to drive quickly and, effectively, was a faster car.
H308 EGS was first registered on the 20/09/1990 and is finished in Solid Black with a stylish grey cloth Recaro interior which remains virtually unmarked. Having had just three previous keepers, the current custodian has enjoyed this little bobby-dazzler since 2001 when it was given to him by his wife as a Birthday present! Since that time the car has had little usage and basically been mothballed until last year when it was treated to a thorough recommissioning with fresh fluids, brakes overhauled, cambelt replaced etc. It has just been fully detailed in readiness for the sale and now looks even better than it does in the photographs.
These cars are rarely found in a totally standard, unmolested condition and having covered just over 29,000 miles (atoc) this Series 2 RS Turbo appears very sensibly guided representing great value for money. Don’t miss a great opportunity to have this Fast Ford added to your collection.

1990 FORD SIERRA SAPPHIRE COSWORTH - COYS AUCTIONS The Spirit of Motoring Sale Syon Park, Brentford, Middlesex, TW8 8JF Saturday 19th October 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

COYS AUCTIONS
The Spirit of Motoring Sale
Syon Park, Brentford, Middlesex, TW8 8JF
Saturday 19th October 2019

1990 FORD SIERRA SAPPHIRE COSWORTH

TWO OWNERS FROM NEW - 49,000 MILES

The Sapphire Cosworth, being based on a different shell to the original three-door Cosworth, along with its more discreet rear wing, recorded a drag co-efficient of 0.33, thus allowing it to register slightly better performance figures (top speed of 150 mph and 0-60 of 6.1 seconds) compared to the original Cosworth.
Unlike its earlier two-door (Tea tray) cousin, the Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth was one of the great wolves in sheep’s clothing of the modern era.
No further punctuation at this point can be made that in actual fact the Sapphire was actually a quicker and higher performance car than the earlier three-door “tea tray express”, and much more of a gentleman’s performance machine, being less obvious and more discreet – but again with greater performance.
This particular Sapphire Cosworth is of particular note, as it is entirely authentic and original, and with two private owners from new and a full-service history from new, documenting its very meagre 49,000 miles.
These super-saloons were prevalent during the 1990s, whether it be the BMW M5 or the Lotus Carlton. Through racing, modification and daily use, few remain on the road today. This example remains pure, unaffected, with original paint and interior, exactly as it has always been, which is now a key touchstone for collectors of cars of this period, as so few exist so unmolested and so genuine. The car even retains its original Dunlop D40 spare tyre and is fitted with full black leather interior, which was a very expensive option at the time.
With the youngtimer market being so popular, and enthusiasm for cars of this period growing on an annual basis, this is a car that must be noticed, as it stands head and shoulders above its peers.
Estimate: £26,000 – £28,000
€29,000 €31,000
$31,000 – $34,000

1990 ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE 6.3 WIDEBODY - COYS AUCTIONS Fontwell House Sale Chichester Thursday 12th September 2019

FEATURED AUCTION

COYS AUCTIONS
Fontwell House Sale
Chichester
Thursday 12th September 2019

1990 ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE 6.3 WIDEBODY
Chassis No: SCFCAM152LBR50114
Estimate: £70,000 - £90.000

Shown at the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show in Coupe form, with first deliveries in 1990, the sensational new Virage re-stated its forerunner’s muscular looks in the modern idiom, slightly narrower but with increased interior space. With 330bhp, a top speed approaching 160mph was possible and 60mph in under 7 seconds. By 1990 the Virage Volante was announced, with first deliveries in 1992/3. Meanwhile, Aston Martin’s Works Service had developed and produced a high-performance version of the Virage Coupe equipped with a host of upgrades to improve the overall performance still further.
In 1992, Aston Martin had just announced the option of a 6.3-litre conversion available to owners of both the coupes and the Volantes. The new Virages would go directly across the road to the Works Service, where much of the bodywork was immediately replaced. Many of these Virages received the upgraded bodywork but retained the original 5.3-litre engine. They are often referred to as ‘Wide Body’ cars due to the enlarged wheel arches, such as the example offered here. Other changes to the bodywork included an enlarged front air dam and a mostly aesthetic bolt-on rear spoiler.
Ordered new by Mr Kevin Harrington of London in November 1988, this example was built to order and first registered in August 1990. A copy of the original order form confirms the car was delivered in Buckinghamshire Green with Burgundy leather trim and was fitted with a manual gearbox. In April of 1992, the car was sent for its interval service and the owner requested that the Works Service converted the car to ‘Wide Body’ cosmetic specification.
Following the transfer of the car to the second owner, Mr Christopher Ross of the Ricardo Group, in 1995; the car was immediately sent to the Tickford workshop where the engine would receive the full 6.3-litre upgrade. During this work, the interior was also refreshed by renowned coach trimmers, Gary Wright.
In 2006 the car passed to the sixth and current owner who has had the car looked after by the specialist Aston centre at Forest Row. It recently benefitted from £15,000 of service works carried out with Rikki Cann and a further £2,130 with the Aston specialist in Forest Row, Newland Motors. The car recently had fresh paint which was carried out by classic car specialist T. Fuller with all windows removed and new seals fitted at a cost of nearly £8,000. It also has a comprehensive history folder from each owner from when it was new and we are advised this spans four folders. When you consider the cost of this Virage new was £127,000, the bodywork conversion was a further £31,000 and the engine upgrades an astounding £90,000; this car is remarkable value for money and with a history file beyond reproach. An extraordinary example and one which is likely not to be repeated.
