1989 LANCIA THEMA 8.32
Registration: F785 RML
Chassis Number: ZLA83400000152571
Engine Number: 14944
Number of cylinders: V8
CC: 2927
Year of Manufacture: 1989
RHD/LHD: Left Hand Drive
No Reserve

  • Dynamic little Lancia, used and enjoyed by its celebrity owner for the last seven years
  • Powered by the 32-valve V8 engine from the Ferrari 328
  • A real 'Q' car. 0-60 in 6.8 secs, max speed 150mph, light and nimble
  • Good history file with evidence of regular servicing and maintenance
  • Very rare, less than 20 in the UK-even fewer with the desirable velour interior
  • In addition, there is a spare set of wheels fitted with Snow Tyres
  • Prominently featured in the current (March 2018) edition of 'Classic Car' magazine
First seen at the Turin show in 1986, Lancia's new Thema 8.32 featured the V8 32-valve engine from the Ferrari 328 which, with the four-door saloons comparatively light weight and nimble handling, resulted in an intoxicating cocktail offering 0-60mph in just 6.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 150mph. With a price tag in period of £40,000 new, and only available in left-hand drive, it was always going to be a niche market car in the UK.
This particular car is owned by actor/comedian and renowned classic car enthusiast, Rowan Atkinson, and has been in his personal ownership for 7 years. During this time he has spent a considerable sum maintaining and improving the car with regular servicing and maintenance. The history file shows close to £20k in relevant bills on file.
He chose this particular car partly because of its rarity, but and also because of its excellent overall condition and the fact that it had velour upholstery which Rowan much prefers to the standard leather finish. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the car and it now represents a real opportunity for the knowledgeable collector and enthusiast.
Today, it is definitely a rarity with less than 20 cars currently registered and taxed according to the DVLA. It's featured in the March 2018 edition of Classic Car magazine with a full road test and appraisal which will be available from 24th Jan 2018. Offered at "No Reserve', it could well be the bargain of the Sale and we suggest a detailed inspection will reveal this car to be a particularly fine example of the marque.

VELOCETTE VENOM 500cc

Registration: 385 GKD
Frame Number: RS9118
Side Car: No
Engine Number: VM1259
Number of cylinders: 1
CC: 500
Estimate (£): 6,800 - 7,800

  • Velocette's class-leading single from the early sixties
  • From a small private collection
  • Rear-set rests, clip-ons, and chrome mudguards
  • Generally very good, just needs some light recommissioning
Introduced in 1956 to replace the ageing MSS, the 500cc Venom and its little 350cc brother were logical developments of Velocette's touring singles. The Viper always lived in the shadow of the Venom which grew to become a true legend in its own lifetime as the definitive British sporting single after BSA and the venerable Gold Star had given up the fight for supremacy.  Such was the popularity of the Venom its production continued until 1971 when Velocette went into liquidation.
Velocette, whilst relatively small, was a great technical innovator and many of its patented designs are commonplace on motorcycles today, including the positive-stop foot change and swinging arm rear suspension with hydraulic dampers.
This 500cc Venom appears to be in good clean condition, having been in a small collection for several years. It's been fitted with popular rear-set rests, clip-ons, and chrome mudguards giving it a slight 'café racer' feel. The paintwork and chrome are good and the whole bike looks very attractive. We understand it runs and rides smoothly with only light fettling (lights/set up etc) required to recommission completely.

• Rare Minerva delivered to Spain
• Fascinating historical record
• Original interior preserved
• In the hands of the same owner for over 30 years

The most powerful Minerva model in 1911 was their Z model. bore x stroke of 124 x 130 mm, the engine displayed about 6, 3 liters and, through a four-speed gearbox, the whisper of its engine muffler Knight passed an excellent power while flexibility to the road in a wide range of speeds and offered coachbuilders a refined chassis on which to build bodies at the request of their esteemed clientele.

At that time, the brand had a good international reputation, thanks to its excellent reliability and open agencies to supply foreign markets. In 1913, advertisements in the contemporary press show a Minerva Automoviles in Spain marketing all models, clearly showing that these cars were popular in this country. It seems that this is the very first model built, historians noting that the series begins around the number 10699, and that it could well be prior to the emergence of Spanish society, its chassis plate with a wording in French. In any case, in all its other aspects the car displays elements of Spanish brands, from its radiator Corominas (Barcelona and Madrid) to its lights and beacons Tarrida (Barcelona). He does not

In a typical way for the thoughtful collector Jacques Vander Stappen, he chose a new, well-documented copy of this brand which contrasted nicely with the other pieces in his collection in terms of style and origin. On the record is a correspondence dating back to the 1920s and the original 1928 vignette still in place which attests that its vintage plates were M-1211, suggesting that it was registered very early in Madrid. Later, there are sales contracts, the car seldom changing hands apparently only in 1940, then in 1975, before arriving in this collection.

Although it has not been used in recent years and it rightly requires a restart, the car is complete and in a remarkable original condition. The leather in the front and rear compartments seem to retain their original material and show little signs of wear for their more than 100 years of existence, only traces of sunburn on the rear cabin door and some traces on the seats. At one point, the painting seems to have been redone in part, from an apple green that is still found on the axles and in the wheel arches, to the red and black livery of today that puts better value the lines of the bodywork, which can easily be changed to another harmony.

These huge Minerva are famous for being good cars. This one with the additional distinction that gives it its Spanish origin, is at the same time exceptionally rare and a fascinating piece of the history of the Belgian mark.
