1978 AUSTIN MINI CLUBMAN WOOD & PICKETT
The founders of Wood & Pickett, Bill Wood and Les Pickett learned the Coachbuilding trade at London's foremost Coachbuilder of the 40s & 50s, Hooper & Co.but, in 1947, they decided to leave and start their own business, and it's reputed that, in the early days, the business was run from Bill Wood's front room.
Over the next few years, Wood & Pickett's business began to grow and they eventually acquired premises in Abbey Road, Park Royal, deep in the heart of what was, at that time, London's coachbuilding industry. The company made what could be called "steady progress" until in the 1960s they decided to specialise in highly luxurious Mini conversions. The company became "Wood & Pickett Ltd." and did excellent business building their own versions of these Super Luxury Minis, made fashionable by the likes of Peter Sellers, George Best, Twiggy & Princess Margaret. These early conversions were done by Hoopers or Harold Radford, but soon W&P were competing for this highly lucrative market.
Offered here, is a one owner from new, Wood and Pickett Mini, chassis no.XL2W2524450A, that has covered only 29,068 miles and been garaged all of its life. It has a most comprehensive history file which covers the unique story of this very rare Mini which, it's thought, is the only conversion of the estate version carried out by Wood and Pickett. Finished in Rolls Royce Metallic Caribbean Blue with a blue leather and velour interior, it's an incredible original example. It has the signature ‘Margrave' Elite dashboard in padded navy blue hide with black suede, and Navy blue leather door cards and thick blue carpets complete the luxurious feel. The headlining and sun visors are in grey cloth.
The full specification includes:
Lockable wheel nuts with 5"x10" tech Del Mini-lite wheels. Electric windows to front doors. Electrically adjustable door mirrors. Leather trimmed Wood & Pickett 14" steering wheel in dark blue leather. Dipping rear view mirror with direction indicator turning lights. Twin Automatic Reversing Lights mounted under the rear bumper. Direction indicator lights to front wings. Twin headlights. Air horn with changeover switch. Navy Blue Leather rear compartment roll-over cover. Deluxe soundproofing of the interior. FM Radio cassette. High output alternator installed. Chrome Front Bumper bars with WP logo. Bonnet Lock. Extra Private Lock doors to front doors. A Stainless Steel finish to the top of the doors (pair).
This is a unique opportunity to own an important part of the Mini story with a complete history. The Mini was bought on the 17th August 1978 from Cleveland Garages, the Austin garage in Jersey and despatched to Wood & Pickett in the UK for conversion. It then came back then to the island and was first registered on the 13 December 1978. The Mini has remained with the original owner ever since. The history file contains all the correspondence between the owner and Mr. Wood detailing the required specification even down to the upholstery colour swatch. All books and service records are present as is a set of spare keys. All taxes are paid and there is a NOVA application number.

1963 GLAS GOGGOMOBIL TS250 - Charterhouse Auctions

COMING TO AUCTION
FROM
July 19th 2015
Vintage and Classic Car Auction
viewing time as 10am, with the auction as 1.30pm Location: Classics at the Castle, Sherborne Castle, New Rd, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 5NR

1963 GLAS GOGGOMOBIL TS250

A 1963 Glas Goggomobil TS250 coupé, registration number GSJ 115, chassis number 02165122, grey over cream. Using the same platform chassis and mechanics as the Goggomobil T-Series saloons, the coupé was introduced by German Agricultural Machinery and Scooter Manufacturers Glas, in 1956, and its popularity prompted a thirteen year production run of these diminutive two-stroke motor cars. This pretty micro car was restored and repainted around seven years ago, since when it was acquired by a retired motorcycle restorer to add to his collection of classic German motorcars. During his ownership, the car has been significantly fettled to include all new chrome, rebuilt steering and brake systems and general detailing. Very rare today, this little coupé is believed to be one of the best examples in the UK, comes with an original workshop manual, handbook, spares and catalogue. V5C, no MOT

A little micro car, with just a 250cc engine is part of the large Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars totalling £1,000,000 going under the hammer at their auction at Sherborne Castle in conjunction with the Classics at the Castle Car Show on Sunday 19th July.

“We have some fabulous entries into this specialist auction.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “However, for me it is the cheeky little Goggomobil which has put a smile on my face. Looking at a photograph of the car, you do not realise how diminutive it is. Despite its somewhat sporty pretences, it has a tiny 247cc two stroke engine with 13.6 hp propelling the car, when new, to a claimed top speed of 47mph. Needless to say, the sales brochures could not publicise a 0-60mph time!”

With nearly 70 classic and vintage cars entered into the auction there is plenty to choose from. Cars are estimated from just £1,000 up to £140,000 and there are restoration vehicles through to concours classics in just about every colour under the rainbow.

Viewing for the auction, being held in a marquee in the grounds of Sherborne Castle, is on Sunday 19th July from 10.00am, with the auction starting at 1.30pm. Catalogues are available from the auctioneers or you can look through the million pound worth of lovely lots on www.charterhouse-auction.com or bid live on the internet during the sale on www.i-bidder.com

1988 FORD SIERRA RS COSWORTH - Charterhouse Autions 19/07/15

COMING TO AUCTION
FROM

SUNDAY 19th JULY 2015
SHERBORNE CASTLE, SHERBORNE

1988 FORD SIERRA RS COSWORTH

A 1988 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, registration number E3 44 JNO, chassis number WFDFXXGBBF JD88311, metallic blue. This very original Cosworth is the rarer two wheel drive version of Ford's 1980s performance Sierras. With a retail price of £19,500 and only being available for 12 months (1988-89) the two wheel drive version of the four door Sapphire is certainly very rare and a true collector's Ford. This three owner, 52,000 miles from new Cosworth has been cherished by its owners and is presented in original unmolested condition. The only known departure from standard specification on this RS is a stainless steel exhaust which was fitted due to the usual wear and tear at a cost of £2,000. Now only for sale due to the vendor having less and less time to use the car due to work commitments and he now feels that this most desirable Ford needs to go to a new custodian who can use the car to its full potential. V5C, MOT to July 2016

1974 BMW 2002 - Charterhouse Auctions 10/07/15

COMING TO AUCTION
FROM
SUNDAY 19th JULY 2015
SHERBORNE CASTLE, SHERBORNE,

1974 BMW 2002

A 1974 BMW 2002, registration number GLO 463N, chassis number 4201224, engine number MOL4201224, green/white. This well presented 2002 has been with the current owner, a garage propietor, since 2007. From information taken from the BMW Zertificat it can be confirmed that the car was supplied to its first owner by BMW GB Ltd/London and was originally finished in Chamoix white. The huge history file which comes with the BMW is testament to the amount of time and money which has been spent on it. Included within the file are receipts, past MOTs, data sheets, original owner's handbooks, a Haynes workshop manual, and a Sunday Express magazine article where the BMW was used as a prop. The vendor advises us that the bodywork is in very good condition and the engine and running gear are in a similar state. He feels that the interior is an area where the car could be improved. Now only for sale due to a lack of recent use. V5C, MOT to March 2016

RegistrationRRU 302H
Yearc.1979
ColourBlue
Engine size1,256 cc
Chassis No.92170JY716494
Engine No.2057369
Launched in 1963 by Vauxhall subsidiary Bedford Vehicles, the HA van was based on the Vauxhall Viva HA saloon car and proved so popular that it remained in production for 20 years.
Initially fitted with a 1,057cc four-cylinder engine, this grew to 1,159cc in 1967 and finally to 1,256cc with two payload options available, 6cwt (HAE) or heavy duty 8cwt (HAV), the latter with bigger tyres and a beefed up rear axle and suspension. With 48bhp on tap and driving through a four-speed all-synchro gearbox, it had a top speed of 60mph and 39mpg economy.
Immensely popular with utility companies, no Seventies street scene was complete without a British Gas, Telecom or Post Office HA van scurrying about its daily business. Outliving the Viva HA saloon by almost five years, it soldiered on virtually unaltered until it was finally replaced by the new Astravan/Astramax in 1983.
First registered in September 1979 (but possibly dating from 1969 hence the 'H' plate although the V5C does not make this clear), this particular van is the HAE 6cwt version with a 670lb payload capacity. It has had just four owners from new and has been substantially restored within the last year including a body restoration and respray in Royal Blue, rebuilt engine, new clutch and a brake overhaul at a cost of over £2,500.
Said to run and drive well with an MOT until May 2016 and so much more characterful than a modern equivalent, it no doubt has years of useful life ahead of it and would make a great promotional vehicle for any small business.

Engine size1,507 cc
Chassis No.CAV 118981
Established in 1930, Bedford Vehicles was a subsidiary of Vauxhall Motors (itself the British subsidiary of General Motors) that was dedicated to the production of commercial vehicles.
A key part of the GM Europe operation, the Bedford brand proved hugely popular and their range of lorries and light commercial vehicles established an enviable reputation for sturdiness and reliability. The CA range of light commercials was launched in 1952 and proved so successful that it remained in production right up until 1969.
With a distinctive pug-nosed front end and a goldfish-bowl windscreen, the CA was generally supplied as a light delivery van but was also sold in chassis cab form for conversion into a light truck. Early models had a 52bhp 1.5-litre engine but from 1964 this was replaced by a more powerful 1.6-litre unit from the Vauxhall Victor FB. Allied to a three- or four-speed gearbox this gave the CA a top speed of around 70mph.
Dover-based commercial coachbuilding firm, Martin Walter Ltd, had realised that many CAs were being used by travelling salesmen and delivery drivers who were sleeping in them overnight. They developed (and patented) the ‘Dormatic’ a clever folding seat arrangement that converted into a bed. They soon added a sink and gas stove before their master-stroke, the patented Dormobile pop-up roof which, with two bunks aloft, converted the small van into four-berth accommodation.
So popular was the Dormobile Camper concept that special trains were laid on to ship the base vehicles down to Kent for conversion, some 10,000 Dormobiles of all types leaving the works before the company folded in the mid ‘90s.
This 1959 CA Dormobile version has recently come into the hands of the vendor and is probably best described as shabby-chic. Fitted with a recent new clutch and stainless-steel exhaust, we are advised that it runs very sweetly and drives well, although there is insufficient paperwork to confirm whether the indicated mileage of 62,000 is correct.
An attractive alternative to the ubiquitous VW Camper, this wonderfully original Dormo’s lucky new owner can choose to keep it much as is, or restore it to its former glory.
