1954 AUSTIN A30 SPEEDWELL - SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS @ RACE RETRO

race retro competition car sale

1954 AUSTIN A30 SPEEDWELL

The Austin A30 'Speedwell' was raced successfully in period by the Formula One twice World Champion, the late and legendary Graham Hill. This car was built under guidance of Goodwood saloon expert Rae Davis as a nod to that original car replicating both the colour scheme and look of the original car, as well as the results on the track.
This immaculate and special car was built from a lightweight seam welded shell and features a T45 welded in FIA roll cage, special front springs and roll bar with Armstrong adjustable Lever shock absorbers by Pete Cauldwell of Worldwide Imports. The rear features special springs with an 'A' frame anti-tramp bar and adjustable Lever shock absorbers as well as EN40 steel half shafts, double bearing hubs and a limited slip differential. The new 'lightweight' interior features a a period Stack dashboard and instruments, with belts and seat all in date.

The unique engine is prepared and hand built by none other than Neil Brown of Neil Brown Engineering, the man responsible for the build and development of the Works Honda engines in the current BTCC incorporating new parts from MED and Swiftune.
Owned and more recently raced by the legendary Gordon Shedden, twice British Touring Car Champion and all round nice guy, 'Flash' has too many commitments in 2016 to race this particular car, which now represents a unique opportunity to acquire a famous and very successful Goodwood friendly saloon. Run and prepared by the famous Neal family owned 'Team Dynamics', who are responsible for the running of the Honda Works cars in the current BTCC. The car is 'on the button' and offered absolutely ready to race and win, and is eligible for numerous series - such as the HRDC series for 1950's cars, and is also a highly likely invitee for the next 1950's St. Mary's Trophy grid at the Goodwood Revival.
Uniquely, the new owner will also benefit from a test day ‘handover' if required from Team Dynamics and Flash.

1989 BMW E30 M3 JOHNNY CECOTTO - SILVERSTONE RACE RETRO SALE

1989 BMW E30 M3 JOHNNY CECOTTO

The pedigree of the original E30 M3 is obvious all the way from its race-bred four cylinder motor (designed to rev past 9000 RPM in race form) and dog-leg five-speed gearbox to those wheel arch blisters, designed, not to look cool on the Kings Road, but to accept slick tyres of up to 10in in width. The E30 M3 was the first purpose built saloon produced as a racing homologation special by BMW's Motorsport division. Introduced in 1986 as a road car, it dominated Touring Car racing throughout the World taking countless championships including the prestigious German, Australian and British titles, not to mention the World Touring Car Championship in 1987 and in the process quietly becoming one of the most legendary BMWs ever.
To celebrate the success of their factory driver, Johnny Cecotto, BMW produced a special edition of the M3 in 1989 for the European market. The car featured the new 2.3-litre S14 engine - capable of 215 bhp, the M3 Evolution II front and rear spoilers, an illuminated gear knob, 'M3' door sill plates and a plaque on the centre console. The car was available in 3 colours; Macao Blue Metallic, Misano Red and Nogaro Silver whilst different trim options were available for the interior. The UK market received the E30 M3 'Roberto Ravaglia' edition, which in essence was the same as the Cecotto model, save for the signature on the numbered plaque on the centre console. In total, BMW produced a combined number of 505 cars, 480 being Cecotto and 25 being Ravaglia special editions.
This particular example is a 'Johnny Cecotto'  E30 M3, numbered 276 of 480 cars. It was supplied new in Gibraltar on 17thAugust 1989 by Bassadone Motors Ltd and was finished in Misano Red (colour code 236), featuring an Anthracite M-Technic cloth interior with contrasting Bison Black leather. Options ordered from new included; electric front windows, BMW sound system and air-conditioning. The car was first registered in the UK on 12th February 1991, and went on to have 3 owners before our vendor purchased the car on 15th January 2000 when the car had covered around 119,000km.
During his attentive ownership, our vendor has had this car maintained by marque specialists, Moseley Motor Spares, for which there are many invoices in the history file. After some time, the engineer at the aforementioned specialist decided to 'go it alone' and in doing so, set up AutoTech Performance Ltd in Telford. All maintenance duties on this E30 M3 were also moved to the new garage, and so we can confirm that this car has been looked after by the same engineer for the last 16 years. The last check-up was carried out in January of this year when both rear driveshafts were replaced.
Several years ago, the car was treated to a full respray, and we can confirm that even though our vendor believes in driving his pride and joy on a regular basis, the paint hasn't suffered as a result and still looks fantastic. The wheels were refurbished in April 2015 and remain in very good condition.
Contained within the history file are 17 MoT certificates, the latest of which expires on 19th January 2017. A BMW Europa service book and the BMW maintenance book is also present and shows 25 service stamps. Open the boot and you will find the tool kit, warning triangle and original unopened first aid kit still in place!
Being a 'sunroof delete' ordered model, this special edition M3 remains true to its motorsport roots. Supplied with a UK V5c bearing registration 'B3 ENN', a current MoT and lots of history, this usable and collectable car is now showing just over 202,000 km or 125,000 miles on the odometer, and who can blame the vendor for driving this M3 as was always intended! This 80's icon is now ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

1990 TOYOTA SERA GULLWING - BARONS AUCTIONS 23/02/16

TODAY'S FEATRED AUCTION

1990 TOYOTA SERA GULLWING

The Toyota Sera is a 2+2 hatchback Coupe designed and built by Toyota from 1990 to 1996. Although produced solely for the Japanese market, it raised interest overseas and has since been imported by car enthusiasts around the world. It was initially unveiled in 1988 as the Toyota AXV-II concept car in almost production-ready form. The name comes from the French word meaning "will be", the French verb "being" in future tense,  which is indicative of both the overall futuristic design and also the closeness of the concept car to the final production version. The Sera is most notable for its Gullwing doors which tilt up and forward when opened, and the canopy constructed largely of glass panels.
A Gullwing for Fiesta money! These Toyotas are becoming rare and collectable. The car starts and drives very well, and there is some Service History. This car turns heads wherever it goes! The vendor has run out of space, so, reluctantly it has to go.

1968 VANDEN PLAS 1300 PRINCESS

The Vanden Plas 1100/1300 was introduced in 1963, it was only available as a four door, and immediately proved a success, attracting drivers who were looking for a small but roomy luxurious saloon. The car, mechanically, was exactly the same as all the other 1100 models produced by BMC. Customers found the car a little underpowered, so in 1967 a 1275cc engine became available as an option, as did an automatic gearbox. The 1100 engine was dropped in 1968, but the by then Mk II 1300, with a more powerful twin-carburettor engine, was offered until 1974.
The vendor has owned this Vanden Plas 1300 since 2013 and the V5 is showing there have been 6 registered owners but due to ill health, now needs a new home.
The car is very original, and has a tow-bar fitted enabling the use of a small camping trailer.  There is bubbling a couple of inches above the bottom of the doors but otherwise the exterior is in good condition. New tyres were fitted and it is equipped with a modern radio with USB, to play sixties music at shows.
Mechanically sound apart from a non-working petrol gauge, the car also comes with a good range of spare parts and there were no advisories on the MOT.

1960 TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE T120

The Triumph Bonneville needs no introduction, simply the most iconic post War British production motorcycle ever built. Developed from Edward Turners brilliant T100 /  T110 Triumph design it was launched at the 1959 Earls Court Motorcycle show and dubbed ‘The best Motorcycle in the World’ its name commemorated Johnny Allen’s Triumph land-speed record runs at Bonneville Salt Flats in 1956. Production was aimed mainly at the lucrative US market where enthusiasts were demanding more power, and that is where this matching number early example was imported from.
A complete but totally unrestored bike it was comprehensively restored by Triumph specialist Vagn Jensen in Denmark to a very high standard. Finished in the 1960 colour scheme of two tone blue the bike is in ‘show’ condition and has only coved test miles since completed. Having been registered here in the UK it comes with a UK V5C logbook and MoT until Nov. 2016.  A true collectors bike early, genuine T120’s are in short supply.

1931 MATCHLESS 592cc SILVER HAWK

Description
Matchless, founded by the Collier brothers, remained one of the strongest performers in the industry, even in the 1930s depression, a period which saw many of its rivals in serious trouble. Despite this, both Matchless and rivals Ariel launched four-cylinder models in 1931; the technically-brilliant Matchless lasting for four years only, the less-radical Ariel going on into the ‘fifties. The Matchless Silver Hawk was launched during the 1930 Motorcycle Show at Olympia, London as their range-leading luxury model.
The amazing example you see here has not only been comprehensively restored, but also comes with continuous ownership from new. Built in 1931 on what is now recognised as the oldest surviving Silver Hawk frame, this amazing survivor has only 5 recorded owners from new, with incredibly only one owner from 1956 to 2014.
The first registered keeper was a Mr. Leslie McEvoy from Sidcup, Kent, who enjoyed his new motorcycle until 1951, after which he passed it on to a Mr. Peter Barnett from Chesham, and then to a Mr. Patrick Coates from Thames Ditton, who kept the Matchless until 1956. In 1956 the Matchless was sold to Mr. Alan Lewis, who owned the bike for 58 years. Mr. Lewis used the bike for commuting and cross-country dashes, where he found the sprung frame and flexible engine both highly capable, and very entertaining. After some years it was placed into long term storage, only to be unearthed last year. During 2014/2015 the bike enjoyed a highly comprehensive restoration, which has only just been completed. The mechanical work was undertaken by leading Matchless specialist Roger Ashby, who rebuilt the engine and gearbox, amongst other mechanical components.
This magnificent bike is said to run very well, having had its maiden journey in early October after nearly 58 years in storage and an 18 month restoration. This motorcycle is the earliest frame recorded by the Matchless Silver Hawk register and will be sold with its original instruction book, parts book, two 1950s tax discs and restoration file. Supplied with a current V5 and original buff log book, this is a fabulous example of an iconic motorcycle, and a genuine once in a lifetime opportunity.
